Young Man Arrested for Leaving Children Unattended at Illinois Casino

The person allegedly left five children unattended in a car parked at the garage of the Rivers Casino in Des Plaines

In many US states, leaving a child unattended is considered neglect. Punishments for such offenses vary from one state to the other. In Illinois for example, neglect of a minor is considered if any person under the age of 14 years old is left without supervision for an “unreasonable period of time without regard for the mental or physical health, safety or welfare of that minor.”

Now, according to a new report, a person who allegedly left five kids alone in a car parked at an Illinois casino is facing charges. The incident involves a 29-year-old Carol Stream resident who, according to the Daily Herald, is facing charges of endangering the life or health of a minor. The person identified with the initials D.G., allegedly left five kids alone in a car at the parking garage of the Rivers Casino in Des Plaines.

Five Children Found Alone in a Car Parked at the Casino’s Parking Garage

The aforementioned incident dates back to April 2023, reveals the publication citing details released by law enforcement. At the time, casino security identified a vehicle with five children left alone. The kids were aged 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 years old.

According to law enforcement, they were left in the car parked at the garage of the casino for about an hour. During that time, the 29-year-old, who was likely the children’s father or legal guardian, gambled on the casino floor.

The person returned to the car when one of the children called him. While police were alerted about the incident, the male left the casino before their arrival. Allegedly, the Carol Stream resident left a fake ID with the security guard before fleeing the venue.

Subsequent investigation identified the car belonged to the 29-year-old. A warrant for the arrest of the young male was issued. After law enforcement identified the male in Chicago, he was arrested on Monday this week. It is yet to be confirmed what penalty he may face.

Elsewhere in Illinois, a group was accused of defrauding Wind Creek Casino in a Baccarat scam. The elaborate scam involved a total of six individuals. However, only four are facing charges over the alleged criminal activity. The quartet is suspected of defrauding the casino out of a whopping $300,000.
