Trust Claims $78M Jackpot Just Before Ticket Expired

While most lottery winners are quick to show up at the lottery HQ to scoop up their winnings, some prefer to wait a bit and maybe consult an experienced financial expert. In Texas, however, one Trust claimed a $78M prize just a few days before the winning ticket expired.

The Jackpot Was Claimed Shortly Before the Deadline

As it turned out, the winner of the mouth-watering sum chose to claim the winnings via the Jua-Ri Trust Agreement Trident Trust Company Inc., which came forward to collect the prize on May 8. To put things into perspective, the winning ticket was set to expire on May 14.

For context, the Texas Lottery allows winners to collect their prizes within 180 days of the win. They are also allowed to do so through legal entities, such as the Jua-Ri Tryst. If they fail to do so, the money is then funneled into state programs.

The Jua-Ri Trust Agreement Trident Trust Company is a South Dakota-based trust that scooped up the money on behalf of the winner. It opted to take the one-time lump sum of $43.76 million before taxes.

The actual win happened on November 15 when a lucky ticket matched all the winning numbers in the Lotto Texas game. As a result, the then-unknown winner won the life-changing prize. The winning numbers drawn on that day were 7, 17, 23, 28, 39, and 48.

The winning ticket was sold at Gordon’s Bait & Tackle in Brownsville, Texas.

What made the $78 million jackpot so special is the fact that it eluded players for 116 consecutive drawings in a row. As a result, it cemented itself as the sixth-highest jackpot in Lotto Texas history.

Man Won $5M After Buying Ticket from Gas Station

In other news, a player who stopped at a Buccaneer Food Store in Brenham, decided to try their luck at one of the available scratchers. The player bought a ticket for the $5 Million Titanium Black game and was left in awe after they realized they had won $5,000,000.

The shop has given a $10,000 bonus as part of the lottery’s program to incentivize sales at physical locations for partner retailers.
