When, Where, and How to Watch?
- Place: Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida
- Date: Saturday, March 9, 2024
- Time: 10:00 p.m. ET
- How to Watch: PPV
Sean O’Malley Defending His Championship Belt
Sean O’Malley is 17-1-1 overall, with his only loss happening against Marlon Vera in 2020. Since then, he’s won five fights, with another one being declared no-contest after he accidentally poked Pedro Munhoz in the eye. In his most recent fight, Sugar defeated Aljamain Sterling by a TKO in the second round.
O’Malley is famous for his striking. In fact, he’s sixth on the list of active male fighters by the number of significant strikes landed per minute. This guy lands 7.25 punches and kicks every 60 seconds on average.
One of his biggest weaknesses is wrestling, the proof being that in the fight with Petr Yan, he got taken down six times. He did, however, manage to slip out each time. Plus, in the fight with Aljo Sterling, he stopped the wrestling expert from making a single TD.
Marlon Vera Ready to Go to War at UFC 299
Marlon Vera is 23-8-1 with all of his eight losses happening after the final bell. The last time he lost, he lost by a split decision to Cory Sandhagen in which Chito showed how tough he is. He got hit 128 times, with three of the Sandman’s strikes knocking him down.
What’s interesting is that it wasn’t the fight in which he absorbed the most strikes in his career. Instead, it happened against Rob Font in 2022. The fight saw Vera get 271 times but still ended up winning the fight. In his most recent fight, Vera beat Munhoz by decision after landing 141 strikes.
Sean O’Malley vs. Marlon Vera 2 Prediction
Our Sean O’Malley vs. Marlon Vera 2 prediction is that this is going to be a real striking battle. We predict that each fighter will land 100+ strikes on Saturday, but we don’t think either of them will get a KO win. After all, both fighters are incredibly tough, not to mention that this is a fight for the title, so you can be certain they’ll go all-in.
But who’s going to win the fight if it goes to distance? We think it’s going to be O’Malley. We think he’ll be the one to land more strikes, which should be enough for him to win over the judges.
Pick: Sean O’Malley
