Can New York Jets Deal With In-Form Minnesota Vikings?

The New York Jets are 2-2 overall, which isn’t bad, but they probably feel as if they could’ve done better. This goes especially for their most recent game, in which they lost 10:9 to the Denver Broncos on the road.

Sure, it’s never easy to play against the 2024 Broncos who are really good defensively. Still, the Jets’ offense really could’ve done more. They scored their points from three field goals and had a chance to score the game-winning field goal in the final moments of the game, but placekicker Greg Zuerlein missed his shot from 50 yards.

Of course, he’s not to be blamed. Instead, the offensive team didn’t do a good job of bringing the ball closer to the opposition end. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw 24-for-42 for 225 yards with no TDs and no interceptions.

He did okay, but his teammates did not, which made him angry, so he had a sort of a small meltdown after the game, blaming the rest of the team, as well as the coach for the failure in Week 4.

Minnesota Vikings Aren’t as Great as Their Record Suggests

The Vikings are 4-0 and their quarterback Sam Darnold has set a franchise record for being the first Minnesota QB with 2+ touchdown passes in every game so far. He’s having a great season, but the fact is that Darnold isn’t an elite QB.

In fact, before the start of the season, many pundits were convinced that he’s not going to be able to fill the hole left by Kirk Cousins’ departure to Atlanta.

So, how come he’s led the Vikings to four wins in 2024, some of which were against really tough opponents? Well, there’s an explanation for each of those wins. In Week 1, they defeated the desperate NY Giants, which was expected.

In Week 2, they beat the San Francisco 49ers, which was a huge surprise. However, the Niners were without one of their best players, running back Christian McCaffrey, while their passing/receiving game was below par that day.

Then, in Week 3, the Vikings put on their best show so far, blowing out the Houston Texans 34:7. They did great offensively – Darnold especially – but the fact is that the Texans made plenty of blunders.

Finally, in Minnesota’s fourth win of the 2024 NFL, we saw them struggle finally. They beat the Green Bay Packers 31:29, mostly thanks to a great performance in the first half of the game, after which they looked kind of anemic. Nevertheless, they managed to get another win in the end, but can they do it again?

New York Jets vs. Minnesota Vikings Prediction

Sam Darnold is the star of the early weeks of the 2024 NFL season, but we think he’s already shown the world what he’s got in his arsenal. As a result, the Jets’ defensive team will know how to deal with him. Sure, he might also produce a TD or two this time, but the boys from New York can do the same.

In fact, given the abysmal performance by the offensive team in the previous game, we expect the Jets to up their offensive game in Week 5. They should have zero problems doing it with Aaron Rodgers as their QB.

Pick: New York Jets
