Mohegan to Step Down from Resorts Casino Hotel Management Role
The partnership significantly bolstered the Atlantic City venue’s operations, setting the stage for future success after Mohegan lets go of the reigns

Mohegan, a prominent Native American gaming and hospitality operator, has announced it will conclude its management assignment at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ, by the end of 2024. This development marks the end of a fruitful partnership and relationship with the Bailey and Jerome families, contributing significantly to the evolution of the gaming and hospitality industry in Atlantic City.
The Operator’s Input Yielded Substantial Benefits
In 2012, Mohegan acquired a 10% ownership interest in Resorts and entered into a management agreement with Resorts Casino Hotel, making it the first Native American-operated casino in Atlantic City. During this period, Mohegan played a role in the history and growth of Atlantic City’s first casino hotel, which opened its doors to the public in 1978.
Despite concluding its management role, the tribal operator will retain its 10% ownership interest in Resorts. Mohegan president and CEO Ray Pineault thanked the Atlantic City community for their ongoing commitment and professionalism, expressing confidence that Resorts Casino Hotel would retain its position as one of the region’s most popular venues.
We’re extremely proud of our relationship with Resorts Casino Hotel and what we have helped accomplish.
Ray Pineault. Mohegan president and CEO
Mohegan’s leadership was instrumental for the Atlantic City venue during one of its most challenging periods, bringing stability and direction to its operations. Resorts Casino Hotel’s robust management core will retain the valuable experience accumulated throughout the partnership, guaranteeing an exciting and innovative casino resort experience and unparalleled service.
Resorts Casino Must Adapt to a Changing Landscape
Despite Mohegan stepping down from management, the tribal operator’s steadfast interest in the venue signifies its confidence in Atlantic City’s future. Recent economic data revealed an impressive resurgence in New Jersey’s gambling industry, which shattered multiple revenue records in January. However, the data also highlighted the struggles of land-based casinos, which will test Resorts Casino Hotel’s management.
Hopefully, Mohegan’s time managing the Atlantic City venue has been sufficient to impart some of the tribal operator’s leading qualities. The company made Newsweek’s 2023 Top 100 Most Loved Workplaces list, highlighting its commitment to fostering a positive working environment. Mohegan’s strategy has enabled it to excel amidst the shifting global gambling landscape.
Mohegan will continue as management partners until the end of December 2024, ensuring a smooth transition process to maintain the exceptional guest experience for which Resorts Casino Hotel is known. The operator will hopefully use the time to implement strategies regarding the rising prominence of New Jersey’s online gambling sector, encouraging the venue to prioritize customer service and visitor engagement.
