Michigan Lottery Player Follows Father’s Advice, Wins $7 Million

The 38-year-old man, whose name was withheld, purchased a ticket from the lottery’s website for Lotto 47, a lottery game that costs $1 per play and allows the players to select six numbers from one to 47. In case a winner guesses correctly the drawn numbers, they can win a jackpot which starts from $1 million and increases until somebody claims it.

After guessing the winning numbers, 22, 24, 26, 40, 41 and 44 from the Lotto 47 draw on May 22, the lucky lottery player secured the mind-blowing $7.19 million jackpot. The win marked the largest prize ever won from a ticket purchased from the Michigan Lottery’s website.

Currently, Lotto 47’s drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7:29 PM. Michigan residents who want to participate in the popular game can purchase a ticket via the lottery’s website or by visiting a retail outlet. While the ticket is $1 per play, a Double Play option for an extra $1 grants players a chance to win a prize of up to $1.5 million from the game’s nightly Double Play drawing.

The Winner Followed Advice from His Father to Use the Same Set of Numbers

The lucky Lotto 47 jackpot winner recently visited the Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. When asked what he considers doing with the money, the 38-year-old man said that he plans to put money into college funds for his children. Additionally, the Wayne County man said he plans to invest part of the money.

As it turns out, the lucky winner has been playing the lottery for quite some time. While previously he used different set of numbers, his father gave him advice to pick a set of numbers and stick to them. Following his father’s advice, the man used a specific set of numbers for a few years. The same numbers ultimately brought him the hefty $7.19 million win.

“I saw an email from the Lottery saying I’d won a prize, so I logged into my Lottery account, and that’s when I saw $7.19 million pending. I was in total shock and instantly thought how my dad had been right,“

The lottery player recalled receiving an email from the Michigan Lottery. He said that the email informed him that he had won a prize. Once the man logged into his account, he was shocked and surprised to see that he won the massive $7 million jackpot.

As with other jackpots, the man was given a chance to receive the full sum through annuity payments or collect a lump cash sum. The Wayne County man selected the latter, taking home $4.9 million.
