Mega Millions Promises Bigger Jackpots, Confirms Tickets Price Increase
Lottery players will benefit from a range of enhancements including better odds, larger and more frequent jackpots
An extensive overhaul will make the popular lottery game played in 45 states, as well as Washington DC and the US Virgin Islands, Mega Millions, even more exciting. Mega Millions confirmed that the ticket price will increase in April 2025.
However, in addition to the price increase, the game will bring much more benefits and enhancements. Such will include better odds, larger starting jackpots and multipliers.
Mega Millions’ Ticket Price to Increase to $5 Starting from April
As described by Mega Millions Consortium’s lead director, Joshua Johnston, Mega Millions is expected to become even more appealing and exciting, not only for new players but to existing customers alike. He confirmed that even more billion-dollar jackpots than before are expected with more players having a chance to become billionaires or millionaires. Finally, Johnston said that the game will stay true to its legacy and help generate proceeds for good causes in jurisdictions where it operates.
“We are creating a game that both our existing players and people new to Mega Millions will love and get excited about playing.“
Joshua Johnston, lead director of the Mega Millions Consortium
In April the cost per play for Mega Millions will increase from $2 to $5. This marks an increase of more than 100%, yet Mega Millions reminded that the price increase is only the second adjustment to the cost since the launch of the game more than two decades ago. What’s more, the change in price represents the first change since Mega Millions adopted a new game matrix back in 2017.
What Can Mega Millions Players Expect Starting from April?
A range of enhancements will be introduced by Mega Millions as of April. Notably, the game will deliver larger starting jackpots and faster-growing jackpots. Additionally, there will be bigger jackpots available more frequently, as well as improved odds of winning jackpot prizes.
Another important part of the overhaul of the Mega Millions game will be a built-in multiplier on every play. This will immediately boost non-jackpot wins by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or even 10x, up to $10 million for players who match five white balls. Last but not least, according to Mega Millions, there won’t be any breakeven prizes as every time a player wins, their prize will be higher than the ticket cost.
Mega Millions launched in 2002. Since then, the game has produced a total of six winners of billion-dollar jackpots. The game’s next drawing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8 at 11 PM ET. The jackpot for the upcoming draw is estimated at $129 million or a $62.3 million cash option.
