Live Casino Pittsburgh Scam Suspects Sentenced to Probation

The two men were able to cheat the casino out of $12,000 but their actions did not remain undetected

Casinos across the United States invest in security solutions to ensure the safety and well-being of patrons and employees. Despite CCTV, live guards and other security measures, brick-and-mortar casinos are not immune to crimes, including theft, robberies and scams.

In one recent criminal case, two men were sentenced to probation over a scam at a casino in Hempfield, Pennsylvania. The two culprits were charged and arrested last month due to a cheating scam at Live Casino Pittsburgh.

Out-of-State Casino Visitors Sentenced Over Cheating

Both men were out-of-state visitors to the casino. One of them, a 44-year-old Maryland resident is identified with the initials S.O., while the second person is a 47-year-old California resident identified with the initials B.S. A report released by Trib Live confirms that the two men were sentenced to two years of probation on Wednesday this week.

Judge Tim Krieger handed the sentence and besides probation, he ordered the two men to pay $1,047 to Live Casino Pittsburgh. Judge Krieger’s sentence meant that the two culprits are also going to be released from jail where they remained since their arrest last month.

Initially, the duo faced charges related to the use of a cheating device, criminal trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property. The men pleaded not guilty and entered into a deal that enabled them to access a first-time offenders Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition Program. This means that if they successfully serve one year of probation, the charges can be removed from their criminal records.

One of the Oldest Tricks in the Book

The arrest of the two men follows an investigation into the scam that had taken place at the Hempfield casino. Using video surveillance, investigators uncovered that the two men engaged in unlawful activity that involved denting cards in order to gain an unfair advantage.

The two culprits, according to court records, were able to win a sum north of $12,000 thanks to the scheme. The unlawfully obtained winnings were confiscated by the casino operator. A criminal complaint was also filed against them, and they were subsequently arrested.

During the investigation, a third person was suspected of participating in the cheating scheme. Similarly to the two men, the person was detained. However, in the end, law enforcement did not find sufficient evidence that the third person engaged in any criminal activities. As a result, they were released from custody.
