GGPoker Celebrates International Women’s Day with Poker Event
GGPoker will commemorate International Women’s Day by hosting a dedicated $10,000 tournament and donate a part of all buy-ins to various charities around the world.
International Women’s Day Charity Tournament Arrives on GGPoker
Leading poker platform GGPoker will celebrate International Women’s Day with a commemorative charity tournament that will raise funds for various NGOs worldwide. The event will take place on March 8 and have a $10 buy-in along with $10,000 in prize pool money.
Each buy-in will contribute $1 to a special charity fund that would be distributed between NGOs after the event. GGPoker will donate $10,000 of its own money to the cause.
To contribute further to the occasion, GGPoker will run various giveaways focused on boosting social media awareness for the event and International Women’s Day in the days leading up to the tournament itself.
GGPoker outreach and community spokesperson Davina Byrne said that the company and its players have an established track record of contributing to worthy causes. Having the opportunity to donate again on the occasion of International Women’s Day is great, Byrne explained.
Involving More Women in Poker
Players get to play a game they love while still helping a worthy cause, she added. GGPoker did a small faux pas by adding Dan Bilzerian as a brand ambassador, a poker player known for his ostentatious lifestyle, and photo shoots with scantily-dressed models.
In the wake of that, GGPoker promised to launch more women-focused initiatives leading up to the partnership with Fantastic Ladies in Poker (FLIP). Women are still an underrepresented demographic in the poker community, although things have been changing for the better.
At the same time, it has become more difficult to get to the top, as prominent female poker player Maria Ho told us in a recent interview. As poker continues to develop, though, more women are finding an opportunity to join in.
