Drake’s Curse Is Back: Artist Loses $210K Backing US Open Underdog

Drake’s curse has struck once more, as his strategy to side with the underdogs has again brought him a $210,000 loss following Taylor Fritz’s US Open loss against Jannik Sinner

Drake’s history of losing underdog bets with massive sums at stake is no stranger to most bettors.

His long string of losing wagers has been recently expanded with the $210,000 that he lost via a Stake bet on Taylor Fritz to beat Jannik Sinner and take home the US Open title.

Compared to the $565,000 that he wagered and lost on the fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk to the $700,000 losing wager the five-Grammy winner placed on Sean Strickland to beat Dricus Du Plessis in UFC 297, the painful loss $1.62 million loss after he bet on Israel Adesanya in the UFC 281 fight against KO winner Alex Pereira, and the iconic series of Stanley Cup and NBA Finals losses, Drake’s latest “addition” seems rather insignificant.

“Most Daring Sports Bettor in History With the Most Losses”

While some speak of a “Drake curse,” others would agree the reason why the artist grabs all these headlines is the mix of his high roller status, massive following on social media, occasional posts aimed at his fresh gambling exploits, and determination to keep streaming his gambling, especially via the Stake.com platform.

In fact, Drake himself was seen making light of his wagering history busts when he announced his latest bet via an Instagram post.

The 37-year-old accompanied his message with the description “most daring sports bettor in history with the most losses” followed by two laughing with tears emojis

He signed off the announcement by saying he was “going underdog @stake.”

Unfortunately for him, Fritz’s excitement to prove himself as an underdog did not suffice, as odds-on favorite Sinner managed to take home the victory and the US Open men’s title winning in straight sets 6-3 6-4 7-5.

Tennis platform The Tennis Letter soon took to X and posted the image of the artist’s losing bet as he had previously posted it on Instagram, using “the Drake curse” label.

Provided the 26-year-old would have defeated world no. 1 Sinner in Sunday’s final at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Drake would have grabbed a whopping $808,500.

It’s not, however, all dark and gloomy around Drake’s betting habits. In April 2023, he managed to win back around $2.87 million after he wagered on Adesanya at UFC 287.

The latter only needed two rounds to take back his UFC middleweight title by knocking out Alex Pereira.

The month before that, he won $1.8 million betting that Jon Jones would defeat Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 but not without following a $400,000 loss backing Jake Paul to beat Tommy Fury the week prior.

It will be interesting to see what Drake’s Super Bowl LIX bet will look like for the game scheduled for February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana
