Crown Resorts Praises Victoria for Introducing Carded Play Statewide
Crown Melbourne’s CEO, Mike Volkert, was very happy with the planned introduction of carded play and highlighted Crown’s pioneering role in the matter
Crown Resorts, an Australian casino and hospitality giant, has embraced the introduction of carded play across the state of Victoria. In an official statement, the company welcomed the change, calling it an “important milestone” for Victorian gaming.
Carded Play Will Minimize Harm
In December 2023, the group’s Crown Melbourne property introduced carded play across all of its electronic gaming machines. This move aligned with the company’s ongoing transformation and continued commitment to safe and responsible gaming.
Carded play, for context, is among the many measures proposed by safer gambling advocates. According to them, the implementation of cards for gambling would allow Victoria to prevent financial fraud while providing its gamblers with a safer gaming environment.
Carded play is also important because it allows players to moderate their gaming behavior, set deposit limits and be in control of their spending. As Australia continues to experience severe gambling harm rates, many believe that such measures are the key to unlocking a healthier market.
Crown Pioneered Carded Play
Crown Melbourne was very happy with the planned introduction of carded play in the state. Commenting on their own experience, casino officials noted that in just 12 months, over 400,000 guests have registered for carded play.
The company added that the addition of carded play in Victoria is an important milestone that will extend important safety measures across the entire state.
This consistent, state-wide approach will ensure all guests benefit from these world-leading safety protections, no matter where they choose to play.
Crown Melbourne statement
Crown Melbourne’s chief executive officer, Mike Volkert, was very happy with the planned introduction of carded play and highlighted Crown’s pioneering role in the matter. According to him, Crown has “led by example,” showing everyone carded play’s potential to minimize overspending.
Our experience in developing and implementing these reforms means that we are well-placed to assist the government and industry as they work to establish a safer and more sustainable gaming environment throughout Victoria.

Crown’s Remediation Efforts Continue
Despite its best efforts to implement its remediation plan and do better, Crown is still experiencing certain regulatory struggles. The company was recently slapped with a $1.3 million fine over self-exclusion failures that took place between October 2023 and May 2024. Still, the company reiterated its commitment to bolstering its responsibility efforts.
A few weeks ago, Crown Resorts appointed the veteran integrated resorts executive David Tsai as its new chief executive officer.
