Charles Barkley Betting Parlay Odds Mistake Goes Viral
Recently, the legendary player and NBA Hall of Famer argued that parlay payout wasn't calculated correctly

Calculating betting odds isn’t as difficult as some might consider. The process requires mathematical skills and knowledge but isn’t complex by all means. To make it even easier, some betting operators even offer odds calculators which the bettors can use.
One gambler and NBA Hall of Famer recently argued that the profit on a particular bet wasn’t calculated correctly. That is the case of Charles Barkley who recently promoted FanDuel’s “Barkley Same Game Barklay” earlier this week.
NBA Legend Argues over Mistaken Odds
Barkley wrongfully accused the graphics team at TNT that the payout for his FanDuel parlay was calculated incorrectly. In a viral video, the NBA Hall of Famer said: “Come on, TNT, if y’all can’t afford some graphics, I’ll give Kenny (Smith) y’all’s paycheck.” Barkley continued, arguing that +453 odds on a $5.00 bet isn’t doesn’t offer a win of $22.65.
“Plus 453 if you bet $5 is not $22.65. Fool. Come on,“
said Charles Barkley
Responding to Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal asked what the win was in his opinion. Strangely enough, the NBA Hall of Famer replied with: “I don’t know the exact number… but it’s more than damn $22.65.” Barkley continued, discussing the graphics displayed by TNT and making the joke about the paycheck.

The Presented Win Based on the Odds Was Correct but What Caused Confusion?
Barkley’s position is strange to say the least, considering that the parlay odds were correctly calculated. A $5.00 wager on +453 odds makes a win of $22.65. The confusion of the NBA Hall of Famer may come from the difference between the win and total payout. In this particular case, the win would be $22.65, whereas the total payout, the sum including the money risked by the bettor, would be $27.65.
Whatever the cause for the confusion, the viral video collected hundreds of thousands of views on X, formerly Twitter. Not unexpectedly, it captured the attention of sports fans and bettors alike.
While some disagreed with Barkley’s position, confirming that the displayed odds were indeed correct, others wondered what the NBA legend thought would be the “correct” payout in this case. One user wrote: “I need to know what Barkley thought that payout should have been. I have a feeling he would have said like $200, if he was pushed on it.”
Another online user argued that the confusion may come exactly from the difference between the total payout and the win amount. They wrote: “They should say to “profit,” not to “win.” It can be confusing if “win” includes the $5 stake or not.” Recently, Barkley made news headlines and made people smile after saying that he wants his ashes scattered in a Las Vegas casino, among other locations. The unexpected and bizarre admission came during a talk with the NBA legend with Arizona Sports earlier this month.
