Can Amanda Lemos Beat Mackenzie Dern?
Amanda Lemos is one of the most well-rounded fighters in the division. She’s got great striking, as well as decent wrestling. Still, what makes her superior to most other fighters from the women’s strawweight division is that she’s incredibly hard.
Lemos gets hit a lot, but she doesn’t seem to care. The evidence of this is that she’s only lost one fight by knockout (TKO, to be precise) so far, which happened when she was fighting in the women’s bantamweight division.
Since moving to strawweight, she lost only two fights. The first loss happened to Jessica Andrade by submission and the other one was a decision loss to Zhang Weili in the title fight.
WMMA’s Best Grappler Going for a Finish at UFC 298
Mackenzie Dern is arguably the best grappler in women’s MMA. She’s a 3rd degree belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, with several world gold medals won in submission grappling. Dern is 13-4 in the UFC, with all of her seven finishes happening by submission.
In the last couple of years – particularly after her divorce in 2020 – she’s turned into a real bully in the Octagon. Her style is no longer just looking for submissions. She brawls as well, landing and receiving a lot of strikes.
This tactic worked in a couple of fights, most notably in the fight with Angela Hill, in which Dern landed 126 significant strikes – her UFC record.
However, in her most recent fight, it did not work. Instead, she got completely outboxed by Jessica Andrade, suffering four knockdowns before the fight was terminated and her opponent was awarded a TKO win.
Amanda Lemos vs. Mackenzie Dern Prediction
Mackenzie Dern is our pick for this UFC 298 preliminary fight. She’s shown the world that she’s tough and we think she can survive Lemos’s striking.
Lemos is obviously superior when it comes to boxing, and she’d win the fight if it went the distance. But we don’t think it will go the distance. We think Dern will finish her before the end of the three rounds.
Pick: Mackenzie Dern
