AGA: US Gaming Had Yet Another Record-Breaking Year

The AGA said that 2024 saw the commercial gaming industry contribute more to state and local governments’ than ever before

The American Gaming Association (AGA) has published its latest Commercial Gaming Revenue Tracker report, highlighting a new annual revenue record for the US industry. This notably marked the fourth consecutive year in which the commercial gambling sector has broken its revenue record.

The Commercial Industry’s Momentum Continues

According to the AGA, American gaming reached annual record of $71.92 billion in revenue in 2024. This marked an increase of 7.5% year-on-year from $66.5 billion in 2023. In addition to that, the fourth quarter of 2024 set a new quarterly revenue record of $18.62 billion, the AGA added.

Further data shows that online gaming continued to expand significantly in the states where it is legal. According to the AGA, iGaming revenue for 2024 was up 28.7% year-on-year to $8.41 billion. Online casinos, for context, are allowed in only six US markets.

Traditional gaming likewise fared well, with brick-and-mortar casinos reporting record-breaking revenue of $49.78 billion for the year. This figure is equivalent to a growth of 82 basis points compared to 2023. Individually, 12 of the 27 states offering commercial casinos reported new yearly revenue records. This included six of the top 20 commercial casino gaming markets.

Last but not least, American sports betting reached a new all-time high revenue of $13.71 billion. This marks a 25.4% increase from the record-breaking $11.04 billion reported in 2023. The year saw both New Jersey and Illinois surpass $1 billion in annual betting revenue.

The final quarter of 2024 was especially profitable for sportsbooks thanks to a saturated sorts calendar. According to the report, the sports betting industry earned $3.66 billion in Q4 alone.

The AGA added that the Las Vegas Strip maintained its leadership position in terms of commercial casino revenue. It was tailed by, in order, New Jersey, Chicagoland, Baltimore, and Washington DC.

The Industry Continues to Benefit US Communities

Bill Miller, AGA’s president and chief executive officer, commented on the impressive figures. According to him, they attest to the fact that Americans are embracing the rich variety of legal gaming options available to them.

Miller added that his team remains committed to furthering this growth in a way that benefits consumers, operators, and communities alike.

The sustained growth of legal gaming is a win for our industry and the consumers and communities we serve. Every dollar of gaming revenue fuels jobs, investment, and economic growth—reinforcing why the legal industry’s expansion is so important.

Speaking of the industry’s economic contributions, the AGA said that 2024 saw the commercial gaming industry contribute more to state and local governments’ than ever before. According to data from the association, operators paid 8.5% more in taxes, as their total contribution reached an estimated $15.66 billion.

The AGA pointed out that the industry also contributed billions of tax dollars in the form of income, sales, payroll and various other corporate taxes.
