Scientific Games’ Joe Bennett Steps Down from the Job
Scientific Games has confirmed that one of the company’s stalwarts and instant games pioneers is retiring

Scientific Games’ long-standing veteran Joe Bennett has stepped down from his position as VP of US operations for instant products.
A Storied Executive with Huge Industry Impact
Bennett is largely credited with the invention of lottery instant scratch game security and innovation and he will be replaced by Bryan Murphy, another respected company insider come April 2025.
Bennett is one of the longest-standing company veterans and he has been largely influential and impactful not only within the industry but particularly as part of Scientific Games’ development of innovative and groundbreaking technologies.
He well may be credited with laying the groundwork for the government-regulated lottery industry and specifically the technology stakeholders use to make their products available and readily accessible to what may be hundreds of millions of people worldwide.
Apart from pioneering the infrastructure that made that possible, Bennett is similarly credited with coming up with robust underpinning security that has made lottery products and instant games safe enough to be trusted by customers and regulators. In a sense, Bennett is responsible for setting a gold standard for others to follow across the entire industry.
Commenting on Bennett’s departure, Scientific Games President Americas & global instant products, John Schulz, said that Bennett was a person easily credited with championing the highest standards of excellence. He added:
His leadership has driven innovation across our instant games portfolio, resulting in enhanced player experiences, trusted partnerships, and support for the important good cause missions of our lottery customers.
Schulz was similarly confident in the incoming successor. He hailed Murphy as another trusted insider with a strong leadership track record and expertise. Murphy will be instrumental in delivering end-to-end games to customers, Schulz explained.
Scientific Games Confident in Frictionless Transition of Power
Murphy is hailed as a worthwhile successor to Bennett, sharing much of his knowledge and unflagging commitment to the highest possible standard. He has also been part of the company for a very long time, joining in 2007, and will now oversee another crucial part of the business.
Murphy will seek to ensure that the day-to-day operations of the company remain unaffected and that the company continues to deliver the highest lottery standards. The transition of Murphy to the job is expected to be non-disruptive and the company’s instant products currently account for 70% of its global retail sales.
