Police Investigate Deadly Shooting at Oklahoma’s Choctaw Casino

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) recently detained one individual, suspected of being related to a deadly shooting that took place at the Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant. The shocking crime took place on Sunday and resulted in the death of one man.

A 20-year-old man identified with the initials A.L. was arrested and booked into the Bryan County Jail the OSBI announced Monday. The arrest comes after an investigation led by special agents at the agency.

In light of the deadly shooting, the Bryan County District Attorney’s Office and the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department requested assistance from the OSBI. The agency did not confirm what charges the 20-year-old suspect may be facing.

It is yet to be confirmed how he was involved with the deceased victim. The police report did not disclose details about the firearm that was used in the deadly crime and whether or not the suspect knew the victim.

The OSBI confirmed that there is an active investigation into the deadly shooting that took place at the Choctaw Casino and Resort. It said that the homicide happened after an altercation that took place at the casino resort.

The Victim Sustained Significant Injuries

The deadly crime took place on June 9. Law enforcement responded to a call at around 6:30 PM on that evening at the Choctaw Casino and Resort. Upon arrival, police uncovered the victim, identified with the initials P.W. The 51-year-old man “had suffered significant injuries,” per the OSBI report.

Although law enforcement attempted to save the victim’s life, he passed away. His body was transported to the Office of the Oklahoma Chief Medical Examiner where the cause and manner of death would be determined.

The police report does not disclose what caused the altercation that ultimately resulted in the death of the 51-year-old victim. There’s also no information on whether or not the shooter was harmed.

Online Discussion Suggests the Shooter Tried to Defend Himself

A Facebook discussion under the announcement by the OSBI claimed that the shooter was harassed by the victim. One user online who claimed to be a friend of the 20-year-old shooter wrote that he was harassed by the 51-year-old victim and his wife. “They were inside his vehicle as he was trying to leave the casino,” wrote the user.

Another person who joined the discussion claimed that the 51-year-old victim followed the shooter through the casino floor. Once the 20-year-old reached his car, he found the victim’s wife in the front seat. The same person claimed that the 20-year-old shooter actually tried to defend himself from the 51-year-old man who died after being shot. This user also suggested that the victim had no business on the sixth floor of the casino’s car park as their car was parked on the fifth floor.

A third user who posted under the OSBI publication about the deadly incident suggested that the victim and his wife made “teenagers fight at their adult parties and then video it.” The user claimed that if the child could not win the fight, he would get struck by the wife of the 51-year-old victim.

It is unclear whether law enforcement is reviewing this as a self-defense case. Generally, across the United States, if a person faces an apparent threat or violence from another person, they have the right to “use such force as reasonably appears necessary” to defend against the threat.
