Ontario’s Market for Single-Game Bets Launches with Proline+
Betting on single-event sports in Ontario started on Friday when Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) launched its Proline+ solution. The betting site features all well-known markets in North America, but international sports such as boxing, golf, tennis, MMA, and soccer are also available for betting. British Columbia also has its sports betting market in place.
Live or Pre-Match Wagers Will Be Available Thanks to Proline+
Thanks to Proline+, provincial bettors in Ontario can decide whether they want to bet on the games live or before they start. The games are constantly updated with a live tracker, and early cash-out options will allow them to payout a partial of their wins of some bets before the final whistle.
Duncan Hannay, the president and CEO of OLG, stated that the more markets and betting options are available, and the easier the accessibility is, the more the fans will engage with sports betting for fun. Not only that, but they will rest assured knowing that the company that stands behind the product is OLG.
He added that OLG is proud to provide Ontarians with sports betting services and help them have fun while they also do good for the community. All of the proceeds from OLG are sent to support priorities in the provinces, with health care being one.
Carlo Santarelli, an analyst from Deutsche Bank, stated that the OLG operating model, which is lottery-centric, has had mixed results in some jurisdictions, such as the District of Colombia, Oregon and Montana in the US. However, it did turn out to be a success in Rhode Island and New Hampshire.
Santarelli concluded that every competitive product goes a longer way than the operator’s breadth in the quest of succeeding or failing. He said that it is vital to note that a state lottery, or in Canada’s case – the province’s lottery, may be the only legal game, but it isn’t the only alternative – there are many other options and, therefore, competition is always present. After all, Canada’s gambling market is on the rise and it could very well reach $4.6 billion by 2030.
Proline+ is the Product of OLG and FDJ
Digital teams from OLG and Gaming Solutions and Sporting Solutions from FDJ developed Proline+ via a partnership. FDJ Group of France owns both of these brands and the partnership will result in a sportsbook app and a new betting product which will be launched in Ontario in 2022.
Andy Wright, the CEO of Sports Solutions, stated that the time to launch Proline+ was perfect, thanks to the fact that sports betting has been recently legalized in Canada. He added that the company is confident that with the global expertise that FDJ Group has in sports betting, along with its technology, Ontario’s sports betting scene will be more dynamic and will have far more offerings.
