Additional Gambling Treatment Funding Coming Ohio’s Way

The administrator will use the funds to support the efforts of treatment and recovery services designed to mitigate harm and help consumers take back control of their lives.

Ohio wants consumers to be able to recover from their dependency on compulsive gambling completely, rather than just roll into the state’s self-exclusion program.

This extra funding should also be able to help more people reach the support they need in addressing the serious condition that is gambling-related harm.

By offering players more options to access treatment and recovery, the rate of chronic problem gamblers statewide should begin to decrease, the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services hopes.

Among the ideas is to boost the idea of telehealth services, where these options can have the biggest impact, with Ohio calling for better coordination between state and local treatment providers as a whole.

Concerns regarding sports gambling in the state have been increasing, with some lawmakers considering a more restrictive regulatory framework in the hopes of minimizing gambling-related harm.
