North Carolina May Become a Leading Betting Market, Predicts GeoComply
Data released by the company confirms 5.36 million geolocation checks and 370,000 active betting accounts for the first 48 hours of operation of the market
Ahead of March Madness, North Carolina became the latest state to offer legal online sports betting. The much-anticipated launch became a reality after the state legalized online gambling back in June. Now, there are nearly a dozen licensed online sports betting operators with the list including leading operators such as DraftKings, FanDuel and ESPN BET. Also operating in North Carolina are Underdog Sportsbook, Bet365, BetMGM, Fanatics Sportsbook and Caesars Sportsbook, each offering a wide range of betting options.
Now, a newly released report by GeoComply highlights the success of the market in North Carolina so far. The leading compliance, fraud prevention and geolocation technology provider revealed that in the first 48 hours of sports betting in the state, there were more than 5.36 million conducted geolocation checks. GeoComply said that the impressive stats reveal some 370,000 active accounts were identified for the first two days of legal mobile betting.
“The first 48 hours of sports betting in North Carolina has confirmed what we already know: there is huge demand for legal online betting in the Tar Heel State,“

The Tar Heel State on Its Way to Becoming a Major Betting Market
North Carolina officially launched its mobile sports betting market on March 11, 2024. After the launch of the market, GeoComply’s data confirmed its previous prediction that there is a high demand for online betting in the Tar Heel State. Previously, the geolocation technology and solutions provider estimated that a portion of the residents of North Carolina visit nearby states where online betting is available such as Tennessee and Virginia.
However, after the launch of online betting, the state can now retain its tax revenue which otherwise would flow to other states. Besides generating proceeds from taxes, the launch of online wagering on sports in North Carolina allows bettors and sports fans alike to access a legal form of the activity, ensuring player protection and fair conditions.
“With March Madness on the horizon, North Carolina is poised to be one of the leading markets in the country,“
added GeoComply
March Madness, the famous NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament is just around the corner. The competition is scheduled to start on March 19 and continue through April 8. In light of March Madness, GeoComply predicted that North Carolina may become one of the leading sports betting markets in the United States.
