Ilia Topuria Is a Win Away from Stardom
After winning the UFC Featherweight title by knocking out Alexander Volkanovski, Ilia Topuria (15-0) got a hero’s welcome at Spain’s biggest stadium, Santiago Bernabeu. Some 85,000 spectators cheered the new champion, basically proving that he’s the new star of Spanish sport.
He could become a global superstar real soon. At the age of 27, he’s one of the most exciting UFC fighters at the minute. To take it a step further, he needs to take another major scalp. Well, that’s something he’s got a chance to do on October 26 at UFC 208 in the United Arab Emirates.
So, can he beat Max Holloway? “Blessed” is famous for his huge volume of strikes, but “El Matador” is a pretty technical boxer. In fact, many believe that he’s grown to become the slickest striker in the division.
Striking has been his strongest weapon lately, but this guy is also an expert when it comes to wrestling and grappling. The evidence of this is that more than 50% of his wins came through submissions.
Max Holloway Won’t Surrender Without a Fight
Max Holloway lands 7.17 significant strikes per minute, which puts him in the 10th place on the all-time list of most prolific strikers. Twelve of his career wins happened by KO/TKO, including his last two.
The first of those was a KO against Jung Chan-sung, which was followed by a spectacular KO against Justin Gaethje in the BMF title fight last April. Both of these bouts were crowned the Fight of the Night, while the win over Gaethje earned Holloway a Performance of the Night bonus.
When it comes to Holloway’s losses, six happened by decision and one by submission. What’s interesting is that in five of those fights, he got taken down at least once. Actually, he suffered 13 takedowns in those bouts. However, he hasn’t suffered a single one since 2021, suggesting that his TD defense has improved.
Ilia Topuria vs. Max Holloway Prediction
We predict that this is going to be a hell of a fight. We’re going to see a real war with both fighters landing plenty of strikes and possibly even a couple of TDs.
But what’s our Ilia Topuria vs. Max Holloway prediction for who’s going to end up with the UFC Flyweight championship belt around their waist after the fight? Betting odds favor Topuria and we fully agree with oddsmaker.
Pick: Ilia Topuria
