Morale is High Among the French
In their previous game, the French beat Canada 82:73 despite coming into the game as 8-point underdogs. They were expected to get run over by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his teammates, but just the opposite happened. Even though they did struggle to tame Oklahoma’s point guard, they had no problem stopping other Canadians.
The French also did very well offensively, with Guerschon Yabusele scoring most of their points while Victor Wembanyama was the man with the most rebounds.
The big win over Canada has certainly given these guys a major morale boost. Add to that the fact that the Olympics are played in their country, and you can be certain that they feel good about their chances of getting to the gold medal match. The only problem is that they just didn’t look good in their previous game with Germany. Have they learned their lesson from that defeat?
Germany Is Still Without a Single Loss
Team USA and Germany are the only two teams that are still without a loss at the 2024 Olympics. The Germans beat Japan, Brazil, and France in the group stage, as well as the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led Greece in the quarterfinal.
These guys are fantastic defensively, conceding just 71 points on average at the Games. In comparison, the French are allowing 78.5 points per game.
Offensively, they’re not too impressive, although we did see them score 85 points against France less than a week ago. In that game, Brooklyn’s Dennis Schroder and Orlando’s Franz Wagner scored 26 points each. Schroder was the man with the most assists, while New Orleans’s Daniel Theis was the one who recorded the most rebounds (eight) in the German team.
France vs. Germany Prediction
Excluding the game with Canada, France’s players haven’t looked too great on the court at the 2024 Olympics. Germany’s players, on the other hand, have been fantastic throughout the tournament. We predict that they’ll keep on impressing, which is why France is our pick in Thursday’s game.
Pick: France
