Lionel Messi is Back for Inter Miami After Missing the Last MLS Game

Last weekend, Inter Miami’s coach Tata Martino decided to give 36-year-old Lionel Messi a day off, which proved to be a bad decision. The Herons ended up losing to CF Montreal 3-2 at home.

Messi made his comeback on Wednesday evening in the CONCACAF Champions Cup game with Nashville SC and was nothing short of brilliant, scoring one goal in his team’s 3-1 win.

The other two goals were the work of Luis Suarez and Robert Taylor. The three of them, along with Diego Gomez, were fantastic in that game. Their teammates, however, were not. In fact, the rest of Inter Miami’s players had a pretty mediocre performance on Wednesday.

This goes especially for those at the back, which explains why Nashville was able to score a goal. It happened in garbage time, but nevertheless, Inter Miami’s defense needs to do better.

DC United Is Hard to Beat in 2024

The team from the US capital is 1-2-0 this season, which is actually a pretty decent record given that they’ve played against a couple of really tough opponents so far. In their previous game, these guys drew 0-0 with FC Cincinnati, which is the team that won the MLS Supporters’ Shield last year.

DC United has a very good roster this season, with a couple of experienced veterans who used to play in Europe. The best example is Christian Benteke, but the striker will miss the DC United vs. Inter Miami game on Saturday due to an injury.

The same goes for a few of his colleagues, including left-back Mahanad Heahze and goalkeeper Tyler Miller.

DC United vs. Inter Miami Prediction

Inter Miami had a blunder last weekend against CF Montreal, but we don’t think Tata Martino’s boys will lose two back-to-back MLS games. This goes especially if Martino puts Lionel Messi in the starting lineup, which we think he will.

As a result, we expect the visitors to dominate the game from the very start, scoring at least two or three goals in total. Knowing that their defense can be leaky sometimes, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Herons concede a goal, but that probably wouldn’t have too big an impact on the final result.

Pick: Inter Miami & Over 2.5 Goals
