Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia Odds, Time, and Prediction

Our Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia prediction is that the undisputed super middleweight title bout on Saturday, May 4, is going to be a real spectacle. But who’s going to win in Vegas

Mexico’s best boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (60-2-2) is defending his undisputed super middleweight title over Cinco de Mayo weekend. He’s fighting a fellow Mexican pugilist Jaime Munguia (43-0) who’s famous for being a real knockout expert.

The Alvarez vs. Munguia odds are heavily in favor of Canelo, but maybe it’s time for the knockout king to get ahold of the crown?

Reasons Why Canelo is a -600 Favorite

Canelo Alvarez is a 33-year-old boxer from Guadalajara who’s considered to be one of the greatest athletes ever to spawn from Mexico. He’s only suffered two losses in his career, both of which happened against elite opponents – Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Dmitry Bivol.

The loss to Bivol was the last time he lost. It happened two years ago in a light-heavyweight fight. Bivol beat him by unanimous decision. The same method was how Mayweather beat him back in 2013.

More recently, Canelo is on a three-bout winning run, beating Gennady Golovkin, John Ryder, and Jermell Charlo by unanimous decision each.

Can Jaime Munguia Pull Off a Huge Upset?

Jaime Munguia is a 27-year-old fighter with a 43-0 record. Thirty-four of those wins happened by knockout/technical knockout, including his most recent fight – he beat John Ryder by a TKO in the ninth round.

The win over Ryder was arguably the biggest win of his career. However, there’s a caveat. It was Ryder’s final professional bout. He retired soon afterwards.

This, however, doesn’t mean Munguia doesn’t have a great career ahead of him. If he does well against Canelo, he’s going to cement himself as one of the best middleweights in the world today.

But can he actually beat Canelo on May 4? The betting odds are against him for a reason. Canelo is a much better boxer with much more experience with fighting at an elite level. Still, Munguia does have some weapons that could hurt his opponent.

He’s got incredible punching power, as well as a long reach. He’s also four inches taller than Canelo, which makes him hard to knock out or even knock down.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia Prediction

Our Alvarez vs. Munguia prediction is that Canelo is going to win. The betting odds seem incredibly short, but it’s because Canelo is very likely to win this bout. In fact, if he didn’t win on Saturday, it would likely become one of the top 20 biggest betting upsets in the history of boxing.

However, this doesn’t mean he’s going to have an easy job against Munguia. In fact, we’re sure his fellow Mexican is going to give him war in Las Vegas next weekend. This is why we think it’s very likely that the bout will last for the full 12 rounds.

Pick: Canelo Alvarez by Decision
