Botafogo RJ vs. Sao Paulo 2024 Brazil Serie A Odds, Time, and Prediction
Botafogo RJ vs. Sao Paulo is the Brazilian Serie A title-deciding game. If “Fogo” win on Sunday afternoon in Rio de Janeiro, they will become the champions
Ahead of the final round of the 2024 Brazilian Serie A, Botafogo RJ is sitting in the No. 1 spot with 76 points. Palmeiras is just behind with 3 points fewer.
What this means is that if Botafogo loses against Sao Paulo on December 8 and Palmeiras beats Fluminense, they’ll be on equal points. In that case, a championship game will have to be played at a neutral location.
Botafogo’s players have no intention of letting that happen. Instead, they want to get the job done on their turf – Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro – this coming Sunday. Will they pull it off? Let’s find out!

Botafogo RJ are a Point Away from the Serie A Title
It’s been 29 years since Botafogo last won the Brazilian Serie A title. They want to end the wait, which they can do by just not losing to Sao Paulo on Sunday, December 8.
The good news for their fans is that Botafogo’s record against this opponent is pretty good, especially in recent years. In fact, they’re without a single loss to Sao Paulo in more than four years. They won four of the last eight Botafogo vs. Sao Paulo games, with the other four finishing in a tie.
Another thing going in their favor ahead of the season-defining game is that they’re in good form. Just last week, we saw them win the Copa Libertadores for the first time in the club’s history. And they did it with 10 men on the field since the 2nd minute after midfielder Gregore got red-carded.
Further, they’re undefeated in the league since August and are coming back to Rio after two wins on the road.
One of those was the win over their title rivals, Palmeiras. They beat them 3:1, which was a great result. However, they weren’t too great in that game until one of Palmeiras’ players got a red card.
They weren’t great in their next Serie A game either, even though they did beat International 1:0.
Can Sao Paulo FC Burn Botafogo’s Dreams?
Sao Paulo FC’s main rivals are Palmeiras, which is why you might think these guys won’t work hard to help them get to the championship game. That’s not the only reason why the boys from Brazil’s most populated city probably won’t be too motivated on December 8.
The thing is that their 2024 Serie A campaign is practically already over. They’re sixth in the standings, and no matter what happens in the final round of the season, they won’t move from that position – neither up nor down.
On top of everything, their recent form is poor, with two losses and two draws in their last four Serie A games.
Botafogo RJ vs. Sao Paulo Prediction
Even though Botafogo only need a point to claim the 2024 Serie A title, they want to do it in style. It’s been nearly three decades since they last were the champions of Brazil, so they’re probably fired up at the moment.
They wanna give their fans something to remember, which is why they’ll go all-in on Sunday. Our prediction is that they’re going to win, and they’re going to win big.
