Binion’s Casino Building Hit by Bullets During Downtown Vegas Fight
Binion's Gambling Hall & Hotel was damaged over the weekend after being hit by gunfire during a large unrelated fight
Binion’s Gambling Hall & Hotel’s building was subject to a gunfire exchange during an unrelated fight over the weekend.
The venue found on Fremont Street along the Fremont Street Experience pedestrian mall in Downtown Vegas was struck by at least one bullet on Saturday.
The Suspect Shooter, Under Arrest
According to Las Vegas TV station KLAS, the bullet struck the ceiling tile in the canopy, causing the glass to shatter across the property.
The alleged shooter, Daniel Porter, was put under arrest. The 42-year-old has remained in custody at the Clark County Detention Center after allegedly firing four rounds at a group of some 30 people during a fight.
When the police searched him, they discovered a 9mm gun on him.
He was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. He was also slapped with a charge for discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, owning or possessing a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, and controlled substance possession.
Porter will appear in a local court on August 21. If he is found guilty on the charges, he could spend several years in prison.
The police have not yet released any damage repair estimate.
Porter Sent an Apology Letter to Binion’s Casino
The suspect, who allegedly dropped a bag containing a white powder that was later identified as cocaine, according to police reports, was also found carrying methamphetamine on him.
Porter stated that he had used both substances prior to the shooting.
He also explained that he had purchased the 9mm firearm found on him for $100 a week before the incident.
The fight that occurred at around 5 a.m. Saturday near Fremont Street and Casino Center Boulevard involved the use of four cartridge casings.
One of them was located next to the Fremont Hotel.
Porter told Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers he enjoyed the time spent in Downtown Las Vegas while complaining about the Californians usually found in the Fremont Street area, claiming they were the ones who initiated the fight.
The suspect didn’t reveal a specific reason behind the dispute that didn’t lead to any serious injuries, despite the large number of people involved.
Porter’s criminal background reportedly includes several charges related to guns or violence, with convictions for burglary, assault, discharging a firearm out of a vehicle as well as into an occupied structure, and attempted murder, according to KLAS reports.
Unfortunately, Vegas is no stranger to shooting incidents. In mid-July, Clark County officials gave the green light to a $1 million grant for the Las Vegas shooting Forever One Memorial that will honor the victims of the deadly shooting on the Strip during the Route 91 Harvest Festival in 2017.
Last July, a dramatic standoff at the Caesars Palace resort on the Las Vegas Strip ended with the police arresting the suspect and rescuing the woman who had been held hostage.
At the start of 2024, a shootout near the Strat Hotel, Casino & SkyPod resulted in two deaths and two wounded victims.
