Barstool’s Portnoy Bets on the Huskies, Wins $2.76M
The wager in question was placed with DraftKings and follows a recent deal between Portnoy’s Barstool and the betting giant
Dave Portnoy, Barstool Sports’ boss, has turned a $600,000 bet into a $2.76 million payday thanks to UConn’s victory over Purdue. The March Madness final went in favor of the Huskies, allowing Portnoy to cash in on the “greatest bet” of his life.
In a post on X, the Barstool leader rejoiced, praising UConn for their amazing achievement. He also noted that this was the biggest wagering win in his life.
The greatest bet of my life. Thank you, UConn. Destroyed everybody and everything in their path. They’d win the tournament 100 out of 100 times. The biggest win of my life by a mile.
Dave Portnoy
The wager in question was placed with DraftKings and follows a recent deal between Portnoy’s Barstool and the betting giant. The deal, which was set to be a game-changer for both companies, aligned two of the big names in US betting.
The multi-year sports betting media partnership was completed after the end of the Super Bowl, creating a strong new alliance. Portnoy described the partnership as a return to Barstool’s roots.

Speaking of Pornoy, the Barstool boss recently got into a quarrel with Ben “Mintzy” Mintz, a famous Barstool Sports representative and a passionate poker player. The latter chose to attend a poker tournament instead of February’s Barstool Combine in Chicago, infuriating his boss. To make matters worse, Mintzy reached the final table but lost and fell to eighth place.
In the end, the player was left with a prize of $14,600 and a very unhappy boss.
UConn Reign Supreme
In the meantime, March Madness is finally over with UConn becoming the new champions. This is notably the team’s sixth title.
This year’s edition of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament attracted more attention than ever before, as operators recorded an uptick in handle fueled by the tournament.
ESPN, on the other hand, reported that its annual Men’s Tournament Challenge has collected a record-breaking number of brackets. This reflects earlier predictions that this edition of the tournament will see billions of dollars wagered on the NCAA teams.
Operators are yet to announce their official March Madness figures.
