Alleged Carnival Glory Casino Scam Results in $100K Loss

A person claiming to be a member of Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Glory alleged that two dealers managed to successfully pull off a scam worth more than $100,000

While casino operators constantly invest in security solutions, training and supervising their employees, it is not uncommon for culprits to attempt a range of unlawful activities, including cheating and scams. Oftentimes a successful scam requires the participation of a dealer and a patron, and this is precisely the case of a corrupt scheme that was reportedly uncovered aboard Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Glory.

A whistleblower, who chose anonymity, recently disclosed details regarding the massive scam that cost the casino more than $100,000 and resulted in the termination of several employees. As announced by Cruise Law News, a person who claimed to be a crew member of Carnival Glory, alleged that two dealers were able to pull off a successful scam.

As described by the crew member, the two male dealers from Peru used a range of techniques to defraud the casino out of thousands of dollars. As experienced dealers, they faced little scrutiny from their supervisor who primarily focused on new hires. As a result, they allegedly “started stealing chips, on roulette passing wrong payouts.”

Allegedly, the dealers mixed the chips in roulette games by adding chips with different denominations or changing bets. In blackjack games, they reportedly paid out bets that were losing ones, added extra money to the bets made by the house or didn’t collect losing bets, the anonymous crew member alleges.

In other cases, the two fraudsters allegedly didn’t register buy-ins or used a minimum amount and stole the remaining. At the same time, they attempted to cover their fraudulent activities by controlling the win/loss rate of the table games and ensuring there was no difference in float.

The Alleged Scam Continued for Several Months

As with any fraudulent activity, the scam was uncovered. This happened when one supervisor noticed a dealer did not collect a losing hand belonging to a player. Subsequently, the supervisor filed a report and asked for an investigation and a review of CCTV footage.

This is when Carnival Glory reportedly uncovered the scam which has been ongoing for three months. The alleged crew member claimed that once the casino scam was uncovered, one casino manager as well as six casino supervisors were fired.

Still, the crew member claimed that no criminal complaints were filed against the two dealers, who conspired with several patrons to defraud the casino. The anonymous crew member criticized the actions of Carnival Glory, claiming that while they punished “innocent staff, the offenders are living happy life as money was not recovered nor police complaint was made.”

In the words of the crew member, managers at Carnival Glory are “reducing work hours by making comments like forgot to clock out on time.” They also went on to criticize the operator’s Human Resources team and claimed that “if you speak up you get fired.”
