- How to Watch: PPV
Alexandre Pantoja’s Odds Suggest He’s Gonna Defend His Title
Alexandre Pantoja is 28-5, with each of his losses happening by decision. What’s even more impressive is that he’s got all wins in his last six fights, in each of which he fought against an opponent from the Top 15 in the UFC Flyweight Rankings.
He won the title against Brandon Moreno, then went on to defend it against Brandon Royval and Steve Erceg. Each of those were 25-minute fights, which saw each fighter get hit plenty of times.
The fact that El Pantera came out victorious each time is a testament to how tough he is. But is he tough enough to deal with one of Japan’s greatest KO artists, Kai Asakura?
Kai Asakura Aiming to Win the Championship Belt on His UFC Debut
Kai Asakura (21-4) is a superstar in Japan, but is he good enough to become the champion in the UFC? Betting odds suggest he might not be, but his portfolio suggests he stands a very good chance.
He’s a former Rizin Bantamweight champion who’s switching to the flyweight division for the first time since 2017. He was in possession of that time on three separate occasions.
The first he got a shot at the title was on New Year’s Eve in 2019. He missed his shot – Manel Kape beat him. The reason why this is important is that Kape then moved to the UFC, where he lost to Alexandre Pantoja.
Asakura bounced back from that loss and won the title in 2020. He lost it to Kyoji Haraguchi the same year but got it back in 2021. The same thing happened all over again – he lost the title a few months later.
Then, on New Year’s Eve of 2023, he beat Juan Archuleta by a TKO, getting the championship belt back. He vacated it a few months ago when he decided to move to the UFC.
Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Asakura UFC 310 Prediction
Kai Asakura is a hell of a striker, but the fact that Alexandre Pantoja has never been KO-ed means that his fans shouldn’t worry too much.
We think he can outbox Asakura and probably even land a couple of touchdowns, which should be enough for him to keep the title in his possession.
