The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series stays in Virginia for one more week. After the race in Richmond, the competition is moving to Ridgeway, which is where Martinsville Speedway is located. That’s where the 2024 Cook Out 400 will take place.
This is the shortest track of all used in the NASCAR Cup Series with just 0.526 miles in length. It’s also special for the fact that the winner doesn’t get a trophy but a grandfather clock. Which driver will get it this year? Let’s find out!

Denny Hamlin Sits Top of the 2024 Cook Out 400 Favorites List
Priced at +400, Denny Hamlin is the main favorite to win the 2024 Cook Our 400. There are several reasons for this, starting with the fact that he’s the one who won last weekend’s race in Richmond.
Another reason is that he loves racing at Martinsville Speedway. He’s the active NASCAR Cup Series driver with the most wins in the Cook Out 400 race, with three grandfather clocks in his collection.
Further, he’s also done very well in the other NASCAR race held at Martinsville. The Xfinity 500 race of the NASCAR Playoffs is the event we’re talking about, which Hamlin won on two occasions.
Other Notable Contenders for the 2024 Grandfather Clock
In addition to Denny Hamlin, there are another four drivers with the 2024 Cook Out odds shorter than +1000. Those are, namely, Martin Truex Jr. (+700), Christopher Bell (+700), Ryan Blaney (+750), and Kyle Larson (+850).
It’s clear why Martin Truex Jr. is one of the top contenders. After all, he’s the driver currently sitting at the top of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Drivers’ Championship table. He’s been great throughout the season, but he’s yet to win a race.
He did come very close to winning in Richmond, leading the most laps and winning Stage 2. However, he ended up finishing the race in the No. 4 position.
When it comes to Christopher Bell, Ryan Blaney, and Kyle Larson, each of them won a race at Martinsville within the last two years.
2024 Cook Out 400 Prediction
Same as last week, our pick is Martin Truex Jr. He’s been brilliant this season constantly, but he needs to start winning races. It’s got to happen at one point, and we think the race at Martinsville is an ideal opportunity for that.
Last year, he finished third in the Martinsville race in the regular season. He didn’t do too great in the playoffs, finishing 10th, but he did have the pole position.
Obviously, he’s not bad when it comes to driving on this track, so we can definitely see him winning on April 7.
Pick: Martin Truex Jr.
