Vahine Fierro Sitting at the Top of the List of Favorites

Vahine Fierro is a French surfer who’s born and raised in French Polynesia. She’s from an island called Ralatea which is a part of the same archipelago as Tahiti, which is where the Women’s Surfing event of the 2024 Olympics will take place. In fact, this event will take place in the village of Teahupo’o, which is where she trains throughout the year.

Apart from practically being the host of the event, Fierro is the No. 1 favorite to win the gold medal for a few other reasons. One of those is that she’s in great form, the evidence being that she won the 2024 SHISEIDO Tahiti Pro event in May.

Can American Surfers Challenge for Gold?

Caitlin Simmers and Caroline Marks are two American surfers who are currently occupying the top two spots in the World Surfers League Rankings. Simmers is currently at the very top, but it’s Marks who won the Championship Tour last year.

These two ladies are seen as the two main rivals of Vahine Fierro in the battle for Gold. What needs to worry them ahead of the Women’s Surfing event at the 2024 Olympics is that they don’t have great memories from Tahiti.

In the previous Tahiti Pro event, Simmers didn’t even go past the elimination round. Marks, who was the defending champ at the title, was stopped in the semifinal by Brisa Hennessy from Costa Rica.

Brisa Hennessy Ready to Upset Women’s Surfing Odds

Brisa Hennessy is third in the WSL Rankings and is a former world champion. She loves surfing in Tahiti, the evidence being that she finished second in the previous major event that took place on this island.

She also has experience with big events, given that she took part in the previous Olympic Games in Japan. She didn’t win a medal, but she did okay in Japan, reaching the quarterfinal, where she lost to Caroline Marks.

2024 Olympics: Women’s Surfing Prediction

Caroline Marks is our top pick for the gold medal in Women’s Surfing at the 2024 Olympics. It’s not going to be easy for her to pull it off, but we think she’s the right woman for the job. She’s still very young (22), but she’s got plenty of experience. And you can bet that she’s gonna do all in her power to win Gold.

Pick: Caroline Marks
