Vegas Golden Knights’ Lehner Addresses Bankruptcy Issues

The recognizable hockey player spoke about the challenges that keep bothering him and highlighted the support of his family

Several years ago, in 2019, Robin Lehner, the famous National Hockey League (NHL) player, won the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. Undoubtedly when winning the prize which recognizes “perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey,” the player did not expect that he would file for bankruptcy a few years later.

Lehner has been through rough times in the years since, especially considering that the last time he played with the Vegas Golden Knights was back in April 2022. Suffering from injuries and going through mental health battles, the legendary player recently spoke about the ongoing challenges he continues to face.

A Difficult Time

In an interview for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Lehner said that the time has come to speak out and address some issues. Focusing on the last few years since the bankruptcy he filed in 2022 together with his wife, Donya, he deemed this a difficult time for himself and his family. “They’re doing their best. I’m doing my best,” Lehner added.

Despite going through a difficult period, Lehner said: “I don’t need sympathy or anything; screw that.” The recognizable NHL player criticized media reports that took a toll on him and his family, exacerbating his already difficult situation. “Bring up something that’s true and I can take it like a man. But everything is fake. No one has any idea what has happened to my family and my life after a lot of these things, and a lot of, obviously, people will see in the future what actually happened,” Lehner said.

Different Circumstances Are Expected to Shed Light on the Whole Story, the Player Says

Back in October, documents alleged that Lehner failed to respond to his lawyers regarding the Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection he and his wife filed for, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. Focusing on that particular topic, the recognizable hockey player said that he could not keep paying his lawyer.

He pointed to “different circumstances” that caused this issue, predicting that such information is likely to “come out in the future.” Still, Lehner added: “Have I been around trying to fix things and try to do good things? Yeah, of course.”

The bankruptcy stems from more than $27 million Lehner and his wife allegedly owe to creditors. Although the couple previously lived in a Las Vegas home valued at several million, they have reportedly vacated the property. During the recent interview, Lehner refused to disclose information about his current residence. Still, the NHL player reiterated that he keeps in touch with his family.
