US Players Scoop Up $1M Prizes after Missing Powerball Jackpot

Powerball pointed out that there were no $2 million Power Play winners

Lucky players from Washington and Michigan have won a prize of a million dollars after narrowly missing the $35 million Powerball jackpot. The Saturday drawing elected no winner, although two players scored prizes of $1 million.

The Two Players Took $1M Home Each

The fortunate players won their prize after correctly matching all five winning numbers except the Powerball. For context, the winning numbers stood at 5, 15, 21, 24 and 43. In the meantime, the Powerball was 17.

If either of the players had correctly guessed the Powerball, they would have won a jackpot of $35 million with a cash value option of $17.2 million.

As mentioned, no one won the grand prize. Additionally, Powerball pointed out that there were no $2 million Power Play winners. Power Play, for context, is a feature that players can activate when they purchase their ticket. If they do, the prize they win is increased significantly.

Powerball also reported 11 players who had matched four winning numbers and the Powerball. Each one of them will receive a prize of $50,000. In the meantime, eight players who had Power Play active also matched all four winning numbers and the Powerball correctly, taking prizes of $150,000 each.

Hundreds of players won smaller prizes of $100 or $300, depending on whether they had activated Power Play.

The next Powerball drawing is set to take place today, August 26. The estimated jackpot stands at $44 million with a cash value of $21.9 million.

The odds of winning the grand prize, according to official Powerball data, stand at 1 in 292,201,338.

US Players Win Big

Speaking of big wins, the Florida lottery just reported that a player has won $1 million from a scratch-off ticket. At roughly the same time, the Arizona Lottery handed a similar prize to a Mega Millions player who failed to match all numbers correctly.

The Mega Millions jackpot, meanwhile, also survived, reaching approximately $575 million with a lump cash option of $285.5 million.

Earlier this month, a player from North Carolina turned a $50 ticket into a $1 million payday.

Elsewhere, an Australian player bagged the AUD 100 million ($68 million) Australian Powerball prize. The winner’s relatives were skeptical of her optimism about engaging in lottery play but she proved them all wrong.
