Mother-Daughter Murder-Suicide Shakes Rio Las Vegas
The pair were visiting Las Vegas for a dance competition when things took a turn for the worse.
Staff at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas discovered the deceased at 2:30 pm on Sunday, following calls from family members who contacted the property and enquired about their kin.
LVMPD Lieutenant Robert Price said that preliminary investigation points to a murder-suicide with the mother supposedly committing the heinous act before shooting herself.
Police were at a loss for a concrete motive behind the crime, but a note left at the crime scene could supposedly clear things up, Lt. Price said. The lieutenant also expressed regret about the incident and that the police could not have done more.
The LVMPD is still investigating with more details to be provided at a later date. Price did share other details about the case, confirming that the daughter was a pre-teen, whereas her mother was in her 30s.
“The mother is in her mid-thirties, and the daughter is a pre-teen.” The daughter was supposedly part of the Utah Xtreme Cheer and identified as Addi Smith.
Before the bodies’ discovery, Lt. Price confirmed that the police had received a request for a welfare check in the area of the Rio, and was in the room of the mother and daughter at 10:43 am.
Although police knocked for 15 minutes, they could not force entry, as there was no evidence suggesting that anything untoward was going on.
