Safer Gambling Week 2024 Kicks Off Backed by Regulators, Industry

Supported by the gambling industry, regulators and other stakeholders, this year's Safer Gambling Week will try to reach more consumers than before, encouraging responsible play

This Monday marks the start of the 2024 Safer Gambling Week (SGW), an event that seeks to promote safer gambling, raise awareness of the importance of using responsible gambling tools and provide support and advice to people who need it.

The Event Will Help Promote Responsible Gambling, the Use of Safer Gambling Tools

The event this year represents the eight SGW and it is set to run from November 18 through November 24, 2024. The Bingo Association, BACTA, as well as the standards body representing the regulated UK gaming and betting industry, the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), are organizing the event that seeks to engage in a nationwide dialogue on responsible betting and gaming.

In the words of Grainne Hurst, BGC’s chief executive, SGW seeks to remind consumers and the industry that responsible gambling tools are important throughout the year. She highlighted that such tools help set limits, enabling millions of people to continue to enjoy gambling responsibly. Finally, Hurst said: “Previous years have shown that this campaign leads to increased use of those popular safer gambling tools – like time-outs and deposit limits.”

Safer Gambling Week is about showcasing safer gambling tools that exist in the regulated industry all year round to ensure that the millions of people who enjoy a regular flutter, continue to do so in a safe and responsible environment.

Andrew Rhodes, the Gambling Commission’s chief executive, also commented on the topic. “Ensuring safety should always be central to every aspect of gambling,” he revealed. What’s more, Rhodes pointed to the importance of Safer Gambling Week, revealing that the event helps the responsible gaming message reach even more consumers. Last but not least, the Commission’s executive said that thanks to Safer Gambling Week, operators can “exchange best practices, helping to make gambling in Britain among the safest experiences worldwide.”

The Event Is Expected to Surpass the Success of Its 2023 Edition

SGW 2024 builds on the success of the event’s edition from last year. At the time, more than 50 million impressions via social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook were accumulated, marking a new record.

Moreover, in November 2023, the number of players using a safer gambling tool skyrocketed, hitting 54%. This marked a new record as many consumers agreed to set deposit limits during the week.

The Safer Gambling Week this year is undoubtedly going to leverage best practices and engage with new customers, promoting responsible gambling. Those efforts are ultimately expected to encourage even more bettors and gamblers to gamble responsibly. Every month, an estimated 22.5 million adults across the country engage in some form of gambling.
