BGC Onboards Kane Purdy as Non-Exec Chair Following Michael Dugher’s Exit

CEO Hurst described Purdy as a collaborative person who doesn’t shy from forming alliances to raise industry standards and protect Brits from harm

Britain’s Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) announced the appointment of a new chair after Michael Dugher’s exit. The one up to the task is Kane Purdy, who brings two decades of gaming experience to the team.

Purdy Is the MD of Gamesys Operations Limited

The BGC announced that Kane Purdy, the managing director of Gamesys Operations Limited, has been selected to serve as its new non-executive chair. The appointment is with immediate effect and follows Michael Dugher’s exit from the position of executive chair earlier this year.

According to the BGC, Purdy boasts some 20 years of experience in the betting and gaming industry. As a result, he is a profoundly experienced individual with robust knowledge of the gaming sector and strong leadership capabilities.

The BGC said that Purdy’s prior experience includes time as chair of GamProtect, a single customer view initiative seeking to shield players from harm and raise Great Britain’s safer gaming standards.

The BGC noted that, following Dugher’s departure as executive chair, the chair position will be filled on a rotating basis by BGC members. Each term will last 12 months.

Purdy Is Someone Who Recognizes the Importance of Collaboration

BGC leaders commented on Purdy’s appointment as the organization’s non-executive chair, lauding his incredible experience. Grainne Hurst, the council’s chief executive officer, acknowledged the appointee’s track record, calling him a “highly respected leader” who understands the opportunities and responsibilities associated with the regulated gaming market.

Hurst also described Purdy as a collaborative person who doesn’t shy from forming alliances to raise industry standards and protect Brits from harm.

I look forward to working closely with him as we continue to champion our members, raise standards and support a well-regulated industry that delivers for customers, the economy and communities across the country.

Purdy, who will retain his role as MD of Gamesys Operations Limited in addition to serving as non-executive chair of the BGC, said that he was honored to take on the latter role. He confirmed Hurst’s words by saying that he understands the importance of collective work to meet the challenges faced by the UK gaming sector, while still ensuring that players can enjoy gaming safely.

I look forward to working collaboratively with Grainne and the team, as well as with members from across the industry, to build on the strong progress already made and help shape the future direction of the BGC.
