Jake Paul (8-1) is fighting his arguably toughest opponent to date. Ryan Bourland (17-2) is a boxing veteran who used to be a Golden Gloves champ a few years back. However, at the age of 35 and with just one bout fought in almost six years, Bourland is a huge underdog.

Reasons Why Jake Paul’s Odds are -1250

Jake Paul is best known for his YouTube work, but over the last couple of years, boxing has been his main focus. “The Problem Child” faced a lot of criticism and plenty of disapproval for his transition to boxing, with not many people believing he could make it. However, so far, he’s done okay.

He’s 8-1 overall with a couple of pretty impressive performances in the ring. What we’ve seen from him so far is that he’s powerful and fast, but not very technical. In fact, that’s the reason why he lost to Tommy Fury a year ago. Tyson Fury’s little brother simply outsmarted Paul.

But since that loss, he’s won two fights. First, he defeated former UFC fighter Nate Diaz by unanimous decision. Then, he beat Andre August by a KO in the first round. It was the first time he defeated a real boxer who didn’t come into boxing from some other sport.

Three months later, he’s fighting again. And this time, he’s taking on a boxer with a pretty good pedigree, but who seems to be approaching the end of his career.

Is Ryan Bourland a Tomato Can?

The term “tomato can” refers to a boxer who accepts fights against favored up-and-coming opponents who usually end up beating him with ease. The best example is Kristian Laight who had a 12-279 record in his professional boxing career.

Ryan Bourland definitely isn’t a tomato can with his record of 17-2, at least not yet. However, he is the underdog in the March 2 fight for a reason.

Sure, he’s a former Golden Gloves champion, but this is a regional boxing promotion in which the competition wasn’t too fierce at the time when he won the title. Secondly, Bourland is approaching the end of his career.

Actually, he already retired once some six years ago. Then, in 2022, he made his comeback, getting a KO win.

Jake Paul vs. Ryan Bourland Prediction

As per his own words, Bourland was getting about $10,000 per bout, which is one of the main reasons why he decided to retire. The reason why he decided to come out of retirement was that he loved boxing. The reason why he decided to fight Jake Paul is that he’s gonna get much more money than he’s ever earned. That said, he’s already achieved his goal. Whatever happens inside the ring won’t matter much for his future. Even if he beats Paul, he almost certainly won’t become an A-list boxer.

But we can’t see him beating the social media sensation. Paul is coming to Puerto Rico for his ninth career win and Bourland won’t ruin his plans.

Pick: Jake Paul
