15 Ex-Workers Kept Together for Years – and They Won a Million-Plus Jackpot

The winners have managed to stay connected, contributing £5 to each lottery draw, and the gamble has paid off with each of the winners now entitled to a GBP 66,666 share of the grand prize, roughly $88,094.

Paul Davy, 61, was the mastermind behind the friends-led lottery campaign, and he managed to keep all 15 people involved over the years, emailing regularly and chatting with his friends online and in person.

Davy’s optimism was not really serious – he admitted that his main goal was to keep in touch with his former Tata Steel colleagues, and he didn’t mind “donating to charities” as lottery proceeds usually go to fund good causes.

So, imagine his surprise when he found out that the group of friends had just won the $1.32-million jackpot. He told the lottery that he could hardly believe what had happened.

His first reaction? “It must be an error,” Davy admitted. Many of the winners live close to each other, with some of them publicly named, including Gill Furlong, Christine Davies, Sally Wise, Julie Lambert, Allan Evans, Ian Howells, and Raja Prasad.

Davy has said that the lottery win now allows the group to come back together once more and celebrate the victory. As to Allwyn, the operator of The National Lottery, the company was excited to see such a deserving win go to the right people.

Allwyn is Happy to See Such a Great Story Facilitated by the Lottery

Allwyn’s Andy Carter stated: “A huge congratulations to the whole group; we wish them many more happy memories ahead.” Difficult as the shuttering of the Tata Steel factory had been for the group of friends, the fact that they met there has now led to much better things in their lives.

The money will go to significantly improve the lives of everyone involved, with the winners sharing their plans about paying off outstanding mortgages, enjoying holidays, spending something on house renovations, and – why not – new cars.
