Elys Names Matteo Monteverdi Senior Gaming Industry Executive
Effective from January 1, 2021, Matteo Monteverdi is going to be the new CEO of the gaming and sports betting technology company Elys. Mr. Monteverdi brings over 20 years of experience in the industry and will help the company grow to become a market leader.
Elys Appoints New CEO
The interactive gaming and sports betting technology company Elys Game Technology Corp, formerly known as Newgioco, appointed Matteo Monteverdi as Chief Executive Officer. Announced on Wednesday this week, Mr. Monteverdi will step into his position effective from January 1, 2021. Before being appointed as a CEO, Mr. Monteverdi was an independent strategic advisor for the company since March this year. In September, he was appointed President. By taking the position of CEO, Mr. Monteverdi replaces Michele Ciavarella. With that in mind, Mr. Ciavarella will retain his current role as Executive Chairman at Elys.
The future Elys CEO, Mr. Monteverdi has experience leading world-class B2B and B2C teams in the technology and digital industry for more than 20 years. His professional background features significant experience in social gaming, digital betting as well as i-gaming sectors.
Furthermore, Mr. Monteverdi has worked with leading international organizations. In fact, just before joining Elys, he served as the US President of the global real-time sports data and analytics firm Sportradar. While Mr. Monteverdi was a part of Sportradar he was a key contributor in signing exclusive distribution deals with the NBA, NFL, and MLB.
In the period 2015-2018, Mr. Monteverdi was a part of International Gaming Technology (IGT) where he served as a SVP of Global Digital Products. During that period, he served a central role in the $6.4 billion acquisition of IGT by GTECH.
Mr. Monteverdi Shares His Excitement for the New Position
In a statement, Mr. Monteverdi shared his excitement by saying that over the last 9 months he had the opportunity to fully immerse with the Elys team, customers, and technologies. He confirmed that the company has built a first-class operation with a significant product foundation and incredible potential which is waiting to be unleashed.

According to Mr. Monteverdi, in light of the shifting U.S. regulatory landscape, Elys is positioned to “capitalize on emerging trends” while sports betting evolves into new forms of entertainment. He added that a distinct competitive advantage that the company has is that it offers a differentiated omni-channel framework. In conclusion, Mr. Monteverdi said that Elys has the “potential to become a market leader and capture significant share of the i-gaming and sports betting markets in Europe and the Americas“.
The current Chairman and CEO of Elys Game Technology, Michele (Mike) Ciavarella, shared his excitement by saying that the company is honored to “welcome one of most accomplished and recognized gaming executives in the industry“. He added that Mr. Monteverdi has over 20 years of experience in the industry and possesses an amazing track record within the betting, technology, and gaming sectors. Furthermore, Mr. Ciavarella pointed out that since Mr. Monteverdi has joined Elys he has demonstrated leadership and innovative approaches.
