Pressure is on Bo Nickal to Show Up at UFC 309
Bo Nickal is widely regarded as one of the most promising wrestlers to enter the UFC in recent years. With an extensive wrestling background and exceptional athleticism, Nickal has made a smooth transition into MMA, accumulating six wins.
Each of those were finishes – four by submission and two by knockout/technical knockout. Further, five of those wins happened in Round 1, with only his most recent fight extending to the second round.
The fight in question was against Cody Brundage, who remains Nickal’s toughest opponent to date. One may argue that he’s even better than Paul Craig, but the Scottish fighter has a different set of skills.
Brundage – who lost to Nickal by submission – is nowhere near as good as Craig in terms of grappling.
Craig’s Grappling Could be a Problem for Nickal
Paul Craig, known for his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expertise, has built a reputation for finishing fights with unexpected submissions, especially when he’s counted out. His arguably biggest win happened against Magomed Ankalaev, who entered the fight as a -715 favorite.
Craig has shown he can turn the tide in moments when it seems he’s backed into a corner, meaning that he’s not afraid of getting taken down by Nickal. Actually, he might even be looking forward to it.
His ability to work off his back and capitalize on any openings makes him a tricky opponent for someone still sharpening their MMA skills. If the fight ends up on the mat in an uncontrolled scramble, Craig’s submission skills could pose a real threat.
Bo Nickal vs. Paul Craig Prediction
It’s clear why Bo Nickal is such a huge favorite in the UFC 309 fight. However, if there’s someone who could upset the odds, it’s Paul Craig. We’re not saying that we’re convinced he’s going to win, but we wouldn’t be too surprised if he did. Plus, at +600 odds, he looks like a very smart betting option.
Pick: Paul Craig
