Can Katie Ledecky Break the Record?
Many believe she can, but that really doesn’t matter from a bettor’s perspective. If you’re going to back her at -350, all that matters is that she wins the gold medal. If she does it, it’s going to be her fourth straight Gold in the 800m freestyle event.

She won her first gold medal in this discipline back in 2012 in Rio when she was only 15. Fast-forward to 2024 and she’s 27 now. In the world of competitive swimming, that age is considered senior. For example, all 39 world records Michael Phelps set happened between the age of 15 and 24.
The good news for Katie Ledecky is that she seems to be in top shape. Last year, for example, she won the fold medal in 800m freestyle in Japan with an 8:08.87 time. That’s better that the personal best of any other athlete competing in this event at the 2024 Olympics.
Can Someone Ruin Katie Ledecky’s Plans?
Ariarne Titmus is second on the list of top favorites for the gold medal in the 800m freestyle event. However, her specialty isn’t this discipline. Instead, she tends to do much better in 200m and 400m freestyle.
Her personal best in 800m freestyle is 8:13.59 , which she set in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. That’s significantly slower than Ledecky.
Titmus and Ledecky are the only two swimmers with the 800m freestyle odds shorter than +1000. In fact, next on the list of favorites is Bingjie Li with +1200, followed by Lani Pallister whose odds are +1400.
2024 Olympics: Women’s 800m Freestyle Prediction
It’s got to be Katie Ledecky. She won this event at the last three Olympics when the competition was much fiercer than today. Anything but an easy triumph for Team US representative on August 3 would be a huge surprise.
Pick: Katie Ledecky
