Can Kyle Larson Do Double Duty?
On May 26, Kyle Larson will attempt to complete both races – the Coca-Cola 600 and Indy500. It’s very likely that he will manage to do “double duty”, but can he win these races?
He’s the No. 1 favorite to win the NASCAR race, while his 2024 Indy500 odds suggest he’s one of the top 4 favorites. Sure, he’s definitely a fantastic driver, but we doubt he can pull off such a historic feat.

Sure, he might win the NASCAR race given that the Cup Series is his No.1 focus, but we really doubt he can win the Indy500 on the same day. Instead, the three drivers who are given shorter Indianapolis 500 odds than Larson look significantly more likely to win.
Those drivers are, namely, Scott McLaughlin, Josef Newgarden, and Will Power. They’re all elite IndyCar Series drivers, so any of them winning wouldn’t be much of a surprise. However, it’s Newgarden that we think has the best chance to win.
Reasons Why Scott McLaughlin is Favored to Win
Scott McLaughlin is currently sitting at the top of the list of the 2024 Indy500 favorites. The main reason for this is that he’s the one to win the pole position in the qualifying session.
The thing about IndyCar Series races is that the pole winners usually end up winning the race. This season, it’s happened in three of the five races. In one of those, McLaughlin was the one who won both the pole position and the No. 1 spot on the podium.
Alex Palou Is Having the Season of His Life
Scott McLaughlin has won one race this season, but it’s Alex Palou who’s been the most impressive driver in the 2024 IndyCar Series. The Spaniard is sitting at the top of the table with two wins to his name so far.
The bad news for the guy ahead of the Indianapolis 500 race is that he doesn’t have good memories from this event. He’s never won it before, and he might not do it this time either.
The thing is that he didn’t do great in the qualifying practice, earning himself the middle spot in the 5th row. In simple terms, this means that there are 13 drivers with a better starting position than him.
Reasons Why Josef Newgarden Is Our Top 2024 Indy500 Pick
Josef Newgarden is an American driver competing under the banner of Team Penske, which is the most successful team in the history of Indy500 with 19 wins. The last of those was produced by Newgarden last year. Can he do it again? We think he might.
He’s a fantastic driver who loves driving in Indianapolis. He’s also very motivated to win this race as it would be his first win of the season. Finally, he’s done okay in the qualifications, booking the outside spot in the 1st row.
Pick: Josef Newgarden
