Trial Date Set for Wrongful Death, Negligence Lawsuit Against Wynn
The lawsuit filed by family members of the deceased Billie Sakkab was given greenlight and is expected to start early in September
Late in 2023, the family of a woman who collapsed at a slot and died while at Wynn Las Vegas filed a lawsuit against the hospitality and gaming company. The legal claim was filed with the Clark County District Court with family members alleging wrongful death and negligence, among other issues.
Now, the lawsuit filed by family members of the deceased Billie Sakkab was granted a trial date, a new report suggests. More than two years after the wrongful death lawsuit was filed, a judge set a pretrial conference for August, while the trial itself is expected to start in September.
Wynn Is Accused on Seven Counts
As announced by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, a trial date for the legal claim filed by the estate of Billie Sakkab was scheduled for September 8, 2025, by District Judge Mary Kay Holthus. As noted, the civil jury trial will be preceded by a pretrial conference which will take place on August 26, 2025, Judge Holthus ordered. Reportedly, the wrongful death and negligence trial is expected to take between 15 and 20 days.
The lawsuit was filed by Billie Sakkab’s husband, Nabil Sakkab, who is recognized as a co-special administrator of Billie Sakkab’s estate. Nabil Sakkab is also joined in the legal claim by family members, Nabil Sakkab Jr. and Tiffany Pond, who are also co-special administrators of Sakkab’s estate, as well as Stephanie Sakkab Colvin.
Overall, Wynn Las Vegas is facing a total of seven counts. Per the lawsuit, the premium gaming and entertainment venue is accused of gross negligence, wrongful death, as well as negligence. The legal claim also alleges the Las Vegas casino of negligent training and hiring, as well as negligent supervision, retention and security.
Sakkab’s estate is seeking unspecified punitive damages, special damages in excess of $15,000, interest and reimbursement of costs related to the lawsuit.
Previously, Wynn has denied the claim for wrongful death, as well as all negligence allegations.
Wynn Employees Failed to Assess the Situation, the Lawsuit Alleges
The incident that resulted in the death of the 74-year-old Billie Sakkab dates back to February 13, 2022. At the time, Sakkab, who was a regular visitor at Wynn Las Vegas attended a Super Bowl party when all of a sudden, she fell on the floor.
Wynn employees called 911 at 5:54 PM and in six minutes, Clark County Fire Department responded, while a couple of minutes later, an ambulance also arrived on site. However, Sakkab was pronounced dead not even an hour later.
The lawsuit accuses Wynn Las Vegas employees of not assessing the situation properly and not using an external defibrillator. Allegedly, the employees were also not properly trained on how to respond to such situations and were therefore unable to save the woman’s life. This negligence ultimately resulted in the death of the 74-year-old woman, the lawsuit claims.
