NFL Conference Championship Games Boost Michigan’s Online Betting Handle

Rush Street Interactive shared its results for the first week of online wagering in Michigan, with the NFL’s games accounting for 39% of its betting handle.

39% of RSI’s Online Sports Betting Handle

The National Football League’s (NFL) conference championship games generated 39% of Rush Street Interactive’s (RSI) online sports wagering handle in Michigan since the launch of iGaming and online betting in the state on January 22.

RSI’s brand BetRivers and others, including DraftKings, BetMGM, Churchill Downs, Golden Nugget, WynnBET, William Hill, and FanDuel went live in Michigan last Friday when the state’s regulated online gaming market opened.

According to RSI, the NFL’s National Football Conference (NFC) Championship Game and American Football Conference (AFC) Championship Game generated more wagering activity than all other events, with the NFC Game leading the score.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the NFC final against the Green Bay Packers, at 31-26. They will face the Kansas City Chiefs at the Super Bowl after the AFC winner beat the Buffalo Bills with a 38-24 score.

Collegiate Basketball is Second-Most Wagered-On Sport in Michigan

Despite the shutdown of Michigan’s basketball events due to the pandemic, collegiate basketball became this weekend the second-most wagered-on sport following the legalization of remote betting in the state. The Detroit Pistons were the most wagered-on National Basketball Association (NBA) team, closely followed by the Phoenix Suns.

Blackjack ranked first in online casino gambling, with table games accounting for 39% of RSI’s casino handle. Its slot title 88 Fortunes was the most popular of its category, generating 10% of RSI’s slot gaming handle.

Good Start for BetRivers

“This first weekend proved to us that there is a huge appetite for online casino and sports betting,” BetRivers.com president Richard Schwart declared.

Mr. Schwart commended the launch of the platform on the Michigan market, adding that the company believes local players “enjoyed the convenience of wagering on an exciting array of online casino games and sporting events, safely from their mobile devices and computers,” on the BetRivers platform.
