New Jersey Gaming Revenue Increases in May, Says Report

A new report released by the gaming regulator in New Jersey reveals that gaming revenue in May reached $374.2 million. This represents an increase of 290.4% when compared to the same period last year.

NJ Regulator Reveals Gaming Revenue Report for May 2021

A new report released by the Division of Gaming Enforcement in New Jersey reveals that gaming revenue in the state increased significantly last month. The gaming revenue total in May reached $374.2 million, which represents an increase of more than 6% when compared to April. However, a year-on-year comparison for the same period reveals that revenue jumped 290.4% from $95.9 million in May 2020.

Upon releasing the report, the regulator acknowledged that the closures and restrictions related to COVID-19 last year undoubtedly had an impact on the revenue. Furthermore, the regulator noted that although some restrictions were lifted, Atlantic City casino properties are still operating under COVID-related restrictions since July 2020.

Focusing on the bigger picture, for the first five months, the total gaming revenue hit $1.72 billion this year. This represents an increase of 85%, considering that for the first five months in 2020, revenue halted at $929.7 million.

Further breakdown of the revenue in May 2021 shows us that internet gaming revenue was $108.2 million. This represents an increase of 25.9% from the $85.9 million in revenue, which internet gaming operations accumulated for the same period last year. In May 2021, sports wagering gross revenue hit $52.9 million, while casino revenue reached $213.1 million.

Operators’ Revenue Increases in May

Focusing on operators’ revenue, we see that Borgata made the highest internet gaming revenue reaching $32.8 million in May. Golden Nugget Online Gaming came in second in terms of online gaming revenue reaching $31.1 million last month. Next in line was Resorts Digital with $21.6 million in iGaming revenue, followed by Caesars Interactive with $9.2 million.

Resorts Digital was leading in terms of sports wagering revenue generated in May this year. The operator recorded $9.5 million in sports wagering revenue, followed by Borgata which indicated $3.8 million in sports betting revenue. Next in line was Ocean Casino, which hit $1.3 million in sports wagering revenue, followed by Hard Rock with $0.5 million.
