Nevada Revokes License of Independent Agent

Nicole Bowyer reached a settlement with the Nevada gambling regulator, agreeing to her license as an independent agent to be revoked

The spouse of a man, who according to allegations was tied to illegal bookmaking and organized crime involving millions of dollars of wagers at Resorts World Las Vegas, reportedly agreed to have her independent agent registration revoked.

Independent Agent’s License Was Stripped Under a Settlement

That is the case with Nicole Bowyer, the wife of Mathew Bowyer. Ms Bowyer is in hot water after an investigation into her husband resulted in him facing accusations of illegal bookmaking, money laundering and other crimes. A legal complaint was filed against Resorts World, claiming that the venue, along with an independent agent the property previously had an agreement with and other related companies, accepted millions of dollars in wagers from illegal bookmakers part of an organized crime group.

Ms Bowyer had an independent agent agreement with the famous Las Vegas casino resort. Per the complaint, her husband acted as her client. Ahead of a hearing on the legal case by the Nevada Gaming Commission planned on Thursday, Ms Bowyer agreed to have her license as an independent agent revoked, CDC Gaming reports.

The license revocation came after the independent agent reached a settlement with the gambling regulator in Nevada, the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Ahead of the upcoming hearing on the case by the Nevada Gaming Commission, the Board filed a stipulation in which Ms Bowyer waived her right to a public hearing on the revocation.

Bowyer Agreed to Cooperate with Investigations

Under the settlement agreement, she consented not to pursue any gaming-related approvals for the next five years. Ms Bowyer also agreed to collaborate with law enforcement, the Board or any other relevant agency that may be investigating the legal case. So far, the Commission hasn’t confirmed whether or not a fine would accompany the legal complaint against the former independent agent.

Filed in mid-August, the complaint against Ms Bowyer accuses her that while acting as an independent agent, she helped cover activities by her husband, Matthew Bowyer. “(Mathew) Bowyer was allowed to continue to play at Resorts World for approximately 20 months without adequately establishing his source of funds and/or that his source of funds was consistent with his level of play, losing just under $8 million dollars.”

The complaint also claimed that Ms Bowyer “was paid commissions on (Mathew) Bowyer’s play, the play of his entourage, as well as Respondent’s (Nicole Bowyer) own play at Resorts World, earning $165,661.73 in 2022 and $501,786.18 in 2023.” It’s important to note that in October 2023, Ms Bowyer’s independent agent agreement with Resorts World was suspended. Consequently, the recognizable Las Vegas casino terminated its agreement with the independent agent and hasn’t conducted business with her since.

Back in August, Mathew Bowyer pleaded guilty to allegations about filing false tax returns, money laundering and participating in an illegal gambling operation. Last month, the trial date for the sentencing of the 49-year-old man was confirmed. The prominent California bookmaker is expected to appear for his sentencing on April 4, 2025.
