NCPG Executive Director Keith Whyte Withdraws from the Job

The seminal responsible gambling advocate and key figure in one of the largest NGOs in the sector in United States have turned in his resignation with immediate effect

Keith Whyte, a seasoned expert in all matters revolving around problem gambling and gambling-related harm, and a passionate advocate of transformational change in the industry, has announced in a LinkedIn post that he is withdrawing from the position of executive director of the National Council on Problem Gambling.

Outspoken Advocate of Responsible Gambling Steps Down from NCPG

This comes after nearly three decades in the driving seat, with Whyte serving out a 26-year stint and being the voice of people who have suffered the consequences of problem gambling.

He thanked his colleagues for the opportunity and felt honored to have occupied this crucial role in strengthening responsible gambling practices across the nation.

“What an honor It has been to advocate on behalf of problem gamblers and their families for almost three decades. Running a nonprofit is one of the most challenging yet rewarding jobs and one that is impossible to do without the support of great leaders, members and staff,” Whyte explained in his statement shared on the professional social media network.

He further thanked the meaningful conversations and opportunities he had over the past three decades, to work with industry field specialists and advance the core mission of the NCPG.

Despite leaving the NCPG, Whyte has vowed to continue working on responsible gambling and gambling addiction issues, focusing on prevention, education, treatment, enforcement, research, and recovery, so that these services may be available for all especially those that need them the most.

Nancy Green Steps in as Interim Executive Director

Whyte’s resignation has been met with praise from his colleagues who thanked him for his leadership and contributions to the organization over the past three decades. NCPG board president Susan Sheridan had this to add:

“During this transition, our mission to lead awareness and advocacy efforts to reduce gambling harm remains our top priority, and we are confident in the team we have in place to seamlessly carry out this vital work.”

He is succeeded by Nancy Green, who will now serve as an interim director for the organization, who has said that she will maintain the operational excellence and mission, focusing on the transition.

Under her stewardship, Green intends to continue spearheading important NCPG initiatives and programs that are the result of collaborations with various stakeholders interested in minimizing and eliminating gambling harm.

The NCPG has been working on educating the public about the dangers of gambling, stepping in to limit abuse and harm to student-athletes, and boosting research and evidence-based approaches in passing legislative decisions concerning consumer protection.
