Family Sues Las Vegas Restaurant for Wrongful Death

Abraham Kenneth Ezra Williams’ family has sued for wrongful death following his death in April 2024. They claim a shellfish allergy killed him at Beauty & Essex, a restaurant in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. 

Cosmopolitan Restaurant and EMS Accused of Negligence in Wrongful Death Suit

On December 26, Williams’ family filed the lawsuit in Clark County District Court. It accuses the restaurant, its workers, emergency medical teams, and other groups of carelessness.

Williams, who had a bad shellfish allergy, told the restaurant staff about his condition before he ordered spaghettini with pesto sauce, reported The Las Vegas Reveiew-Journal. Even after this warning, the dish had shellfish in it, which caused anaphylaxis. After he took a bite, Williams got sick, went to the restroom, and then his friends helped him outside where they called for emergency help.

The lawsuit states that workers at the restaurant and The Cosmopolitan did not give enough help during the key moments of Williams’ allergic reaction. It claims that trained staff did not do CPR or other things to save his life, but instead made a wall that stopped others from helping.

When emergency staff from Community Ambulance and the Clark County Fire Department showed up, they did not do a good job, according to the complaint. The family’s lawyers say they took too long to give oxygen, messed up putting in a breathing tube, and did not keep a close eye on Williams’ heart. These mistakes, they claim, led to Williams’ breathing and heart stopping when he got to Sunrise Hospital.

Williams’ Family Pursues Jury Trial

Doctors at the hospital tried to help Williams, but his body was so swollen they could not put in a normal breathing tube. Instead, they had to cut a hole in his throat. Even though they hooked him up to a machine to help him breathe, Williams got worse. He died on April 30, four days after the incident.

The family, with Christian Morris Trial Attorneys as their legal team, wants a jury trial. They are after damages over $15,000, both to make up for their loss and to punish those responsible. They also want the court to make the defendants pay for their lawyer fees and give any other help the court thinks is right.

When asked about the case, people speaking for Community Ambulance said they felt sorry for the family. However, they did not say anything about the lawsuit itself. The Cosmopolitan and Beauty & Essex, which the Tao Group runs, have not commented on the case yet.
