British Couple Misses Out on £35M Win Due to Failed Payment

Camelot noted that only successfully purchased tickets can be entered into the draw and that it is up to players to ensure that their accounts are topped up before making a purchase

A British couple has allegedly missed out on a £35 million jackpot because of a technical error. Despite hitting the correct numbers, Edwina and David Nylan didn’t win anything because their ticket purchase didn’t go through.

The Lancaster family bought their ticket online at Christmas time. They used the Lottomobile app to purchase the ticket but received a message that they didn’t have enough cash. Because of that, the couple topped it up, allowing it to buy the £2 ticket.

The Nylans selected 01, 02, 04, 19, 28 and 41 as the winning numbers and were excited when these turned out to be the winning numbers for the £35,410,034 jackpot. However, their enthusiasm quickly evaporated when they weren’t contacted about the win.

Concerned, Edwina contacted Camelot only to learn that the company had no record of their transaction. According to the customer support staff, the account the Nylans used when purchasing the ticket only had 60p at the time of the transaction, preventing the purchase from going through.

Since the family was busy for Christmas, no one bothered to check for a confirmation email. However, the woman said that her family has been playing the lottery for years and knew what it was doing when purchasing the ticket.

The Family Plans to Keep Playing

Camelot commented on the matter, confirming that Edwina and David were indeed regular lottery players. The company confirmed that the family had tried to purchase tickets on several occasions but couldn’t confirm whether they would have won.

A spokesperson said that the account attempted to purchase an online Lotto ticket multiple times on December 23 but couldn’t do so because of insufficient funds. According to the Camelot representative, the Nylans should have received an error message on each try to buy a ticket.

Despite that, Camelot promised the family that its IT team would look into the matter. However, the company noted that only successfully purchased tickets can be entered into the draw and that it is up to players to ensure that their accounts are topped up before making a purchase.

Despite the huge letdown, Edwina and David said that they intend to keep playing.

I am gutted, but what can we do? I have just had to carry on with things and not get too down.

Edwina concluded that her family plans to stick together despite the disappointment and remain grateful for what they’ve got.
