Brendan Allen Plotting Revenge

Brendan Allen was originally supposed to fight Marvin Vettori in the main event of UFC Fight Night 240. However, the Italian fighter pulled out due to injury and was replaced by Allen’s old foe, Chris Curtis.

The two met in 2021 in a fight in which Allen was a -357 favorite. Everyone expected him to win, but Curtis beat him by a TKO, showing once again his striking prowess.

Striking seems to be something Allen finds it hard to defend against. However, it’s very likely that he’s improved his boxing skills over the last couple of months while he was preparing for the fight with Vettori who’s a hell of a striker.

Curtis is the same, but if Allen can get to him, he’ll probably be able to beat him by submission. The thing is that he’s a fantastic grappler, the evidence being that 14 of his 23 career wins happened by submission. Further, five of his last six wins happened by this method.

Can Chris Curtis Upset the Odds Again?

Chris Curtis is one of the best strikers in the UFC Middleweight Division. He lands just under 6 significant strikes a minute, which are usually incredibly devastating for the opponent. This explains why 17 of his 31 wins happened by KO/TKO.

He’s also great when it comes to defending against takedowns, with Nassourdine Imavov being the only UFC fighter who managed to take him down. And he did fight against some TD experts in his career, including Rodolfo Vieira who lands 4.18 TDs per fight on average.

The only major issue for Curtis ahead of the UFC Fight Night 240 fight is that he hasn’t had much time to prepare for the fight. He stepped in as Vettori’s replacement in mid-March, meaning that he didn’t have time for a full camp. However, this doesn’t mean that he’s out of shape. On the contrary; he only recently (January 20) fought Marc-Andre Barriault and won by a split decision.

Brendan Allen vs. Chris Curtis 2 Prediction

Is Chris Curtis Brendan Allen’s kryptonite? We think he might be. Allen can beat him easily on the ground but taking him down might be impossible for this guy.

Curtis is great when it comes to takedown defense, not to mention that his striking is phenomenal. So, we wouldn’t be very surprised if he defeated Allen by the same method he did the last time they fought.

Pick: Chris Curtis by KO/TKO
