PrizePicks Secures License to Operate Fantasy Sports in New York

PrizePicks’ launch in New York was celebrated by company officials, who were excited about the opportunity to tap into one of America’s most lucrative markers

PrizePicks, a leader in sports entertainment, announced that it has secured a license to operate daily fantasy sports in New York. This comes shortly after the company expressed interest in exploring the prediction market space.

PrizePicks Makes a Foray into New York

In its official announcement, PrizePicks confirmed that it had been awarded an interactive fantasy sports operating license by the New York State Gaming Commission. As a result, the company will be able to launch its peer-to-peer DFS suite in the Empire State very soon.

PrizePicks, which reached a legal settlement with the commission in 2024, noted that its new license was the result of a close work with state regulators. This means that the company’s licensed products will be fully compliant with New York’s stringent gaming regulations.

New York will thus become the 16th jurisdiction to formally greenlight PrizePicks’ contests as games of skill under its fantasy sports framework.

PrizePicks was welcomed to the state by New York State Senator and longtime gaming industry proponent Joseph Addabbo, who said that the latest license was a “clear statement” that New York will continue to embrace DFS innovation, so long as such products follow the state’s rules and offer gaming safely.

The Company Is Happy to Enter a Market Full of Passionate Fans

PrizePicks’ launch in New York was celebrated by company officials, who were excited about the opportunity to tap into one of America’s most lucrative markers. The company’s chief executive officer, Mike Ybarra, said:

New York is home to some of the most passionate sports fans in the country, and we know they will be excited to have PrizePicks back. We’re thrilled to offer a great entertainment experience that elevates how they engage on game day and beyond.

Jason Barclay, PrizePicks’ head of public policy and chief legal officer, was similarly pleased with the license and thanked the New York State Gaming Commission for their collaboration.

We worked diligently to design a game that meets the Commission’s rigorous standards, and New York’s decision underscores the idea that innovation in fantasy sports can thrive within a clear regulatory framework.

PrizePicks reiterated its commitment to responsible gambling, which was further highlighted by its recent acquisition of iCAP accreditation by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) for its Responsible Gaming practices.
